Not so much. I think the good people who do evil things in the name of religion, do so because of the influence of evil people who wear a religious mask and that those good people would do evil things under the influence of other evil people - without religion.

Makes no sense. Evil people just use religion as an excuse. The truth is, there has been more good done in the name of God than evil. After all, I don't see secular goups taking over for Mother Theresa.

Among Atheist beliefs, religion has a long history of violence surrounding its culture. Atheist love to remind us of the witch hunt that happened at Salem. In Europe, there was a long war between the Catholics and the Protestants; where people solely fought over their religious beliefs while killing thousands for a period lasting nearly ten years.

Some historians feel that the rise of Christianity may have actually brought the fall of Rome. It used to be that women at one time felt that Christianity infringed on their freedom to serve women gods.

In third world countries, Muslims use religion to control their daughters. Although there are many different types of religion in the world, Atheists love to combine different religions for condemnation as one simple bad idea for people. Atheists look for any reason to discard anyone from studying the bible today.

Therefore, "for good people to do evil" can refer to how people can use religion to harm others or it can refer to the ignorance Atheists have toward religion itself.

I think it's saying that, especially in the past decades, and throughout history actually, there have been many instances of basically good people doing evil things in the name of religion, or against a religion.......the crusades, jewish, christian, egyptian and roman conflicts of the dark ages and before, nazis against jewish people, and now the jihad islamist extremists are attempting to carry out on all infidels, or 'non- believers'. So, good people do evil things in the name of a religion, hence making the religion part of the equation. Though if it isn't religion there are idiots finding many other reasons to exclude, fight and do evil things to one another....race, gender, ethnicity, etc.

I think it means that religion allows for the devil's influence on good people and provides an excuse for them to do evil things. Wheras w/out religion, it's just evil people doing evil things.

For the most part, but I don't think that religion is the sole cause of good people doing "evil" things. There have been atrocities committed in the name of other things, like greed or politics.

"With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things.

well, thats straightforward enough. read it and something inside your brain will go click and, suddenly, you will understand.

...But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion."

when someone truly belives that they are right they will do horrible things thinking that they are doing good because everything else they do is good. and religon often makes a person try to be good in their churches eyes,

Religion is irrelevant..... Basically its saying that religion does not dictate good or evil- as history proves the slaughter of hundreds of thousands for religion- take Jews for example- follow Buddhism, Karma, will help you make the right decisions in life

Why yes it does particularly now if you consider Islam. You have a small sect of lunatics running around killing people in the name of lslam. Doesn't mean Muslims are bad as a whole but their are certainly some very evil ones. And no Dick Cheney is not a Muslim.

I'd change that to "....But for people to do evil in the name of good, that takes religion"
