The retainer holds your newly straightened teeth into their new posistions. If you don't wear the retainer, the teeth will move and may become crooked again like they originally were.

usually when someone gets braces they have a tooth or two pulled, then the braces are used to shift and adjust the remaining teeth into place. once your braces are off, the teeth can still shift and with the extra space where the pulled teeth were give them lots of room to move around. the retainer helps keep the teeth in place. otherwise you're likely to have a worse smile than you started with

To keep your teeth aligned. They can still shift after the braces come off. Wearing a retainer is kind of like having insurance to make sure the teeth stay straight. It is not a permanent fixture.

The retainer ensures your teeth stay in the place the braces trained them to be. you should only have to wear it short term, but it's important you do. I didn't and then had to get braces a second time!!!! No joke!

To help keep your teeth where you braces put them, put simply. I wish I would have worn my retainer longer, my bite would be much better than it is now years later. So, wear it!

It stops the teeth from relapsing. After a while, when your older and the bone hardens, you won't need it any longer.
