force yourself to get up, eat, shower, and leave the house every day.
just being out and about with other people will help you get out of your head and prevent you from hiding inside your house (OR ON YOUR COMPUTER!!!).
also, pick up a hobby. i mosaic and workout all the time. doing things you love will make you happier and force you focus on things other than your problems.

I hate going through depression, as I have many times, so what I do is go to my favorite place, which is the ocean, and hang on the beach. Where I used to live I would go hiking in the woods, just me and my dog, and soon, I felt soooo good. You need to find a distraction, maybe a small trip somewhere, or having a dog or cat is great and they help in relieving that depression. Take a nice walk where you feel comfortable, and definitely talk to a friend on how you feel, and after letting it all out, you will feel better. Sometimes , it does take medication, but I did not want to take pills, so I would find ways to keep busy, and that works. good luck, and find something you are passionate about, and do it.........

It depends on what kind of depression you have. Everyone cannot shake it off because there's a chemical embalance which is causing it. If your depression lasts for more than two weeks, see a doctor about it. You may need to go on meds. Good luck.

I have been taking an antidepressant for over 20 years. Fortunately, they have never had to raise the doseage after the first couple of months. I went to therapy along with the medication for a few years--when they told me that there was no specific cause, in my case, for the depression--that it was inherited and a chemical imbalance. I will always need the med, in order to eat, sleep and function from day to day. BUT, it works--so I can't knock it.
If you are really depressed, your general practitioner can diagnose and prescribe, and also refer you to a therapist. If money is an issue, every state has free and sliding scale clinics--call your local emergency room to get the phone number of the one nearest you. If you can't wait--go to the emergency room--depression can kill--get help immediately if it is really bad.

I have the same problem. My therapist and I have come up with lists of things to do, but honestly what works the best is calling a friend just to talk or calling my therapist. Nothing up really seems to help when things get really bad. Good luck!

When it's to the point where depression is something you can't snap out of, that's a sign you need to see a psychologist. Get help, it really is the best thing.

People handle it differantly, I prefer to find a place that is quiet and peaceful and try to meditate on happier thaughts as well as think of what it is that I am depressed about, remind myself that it is only temporal and think of how to improve or make it better.(Even if it is something way out there and beyond my current reach, I think of all of the ways to
improve my current situation.).

The best thing that works for me is getting away from the situation or environment that makes me depressed even if that meant that if I had to move across the country just to get away from that.

I sleep it off.
I just go to bed and stay there until I feel I have to get up and deal with it.
At least by then I have plenty of energy to do so.
And then a long hot shower and cry, feeling clean makes me soul feel clean too.
It works for me, I think everyone has their own ways of dealing with it though.
