The Tae Kwon Do fighting stance is a modified back stance. It is used with the intent of quick footwork and isn't as deep as the traditional back stance for this reason. The spacing on the stance is just beyond the walking stance seen in the Tae Guk series of forms, in order to remain not quite as locked into a position. However, like the back stance, it maintains the slightly turned body in order to remain defensively stronger.

Typically it's close to a boxer's stance. But, your hands won't be that high. Looking forward, your stomach will be pointing roughly 30 degrees to the side. 0 degrees being forward and 45 degrees being directly to your side. 60% of your weight is on your front foot and the rest on your rear. Bouncing slightly forward and back. Keeping your feet on the ground. Don't bounce enough so your feet leave the ground.

Well you should start out in a horse stance, make sure you do it right because otherwise you can be off balance and your opponent will use that against you.

There are several "fighting stances."

The basic variations are:
Foot position,
Arm position,
Hand position.

Each combination has a different name.
