I wouldn't say this if I didn't believe it to be true.
The souls of people are the thoughts of God, that is how God created the soul, from thought, and the soul becomes Spirit when God breathes life into it. They are two but one, they are entwined. It's like the spirits mind, and heart.

The purpose of every soul is to regain its pristine pure form. That can only be done after the soul passes through a chain of 8.4 million manifestations and an earthly life cycle of 96.4 million years.
At the time of big bang when God Almighty (the sum total of all souls in the cosmos at a given point of time) explodes... all souls scatter all over the cosmos. And in this spreading out... they garner impurities on the way.
The first manifestation that any soul gets is the form of an amoeba (single cell formation), then multi-cell formation, insect life, plant life, animal life and finally soul manifests the body of a human being. It is only as a human being the soul can reach the stage of enlightenment and salvation.
The moment a soul reaches the stage of salvation... it liberates forever from the cycle of birth and death. No further body to manifest... this soul goes back to the kingdom of God (aka Baikuntha in Hinduism). More on soul atman - http://www.godrealized.com/define_atman.html

Sure ... the souls purpose is for Christ to be resident there.
To hold God's word and to have a place where the holy spirit can take place there for wisdom learned and metabolized (metaphor) doctrine to become available for application in the Christian way of life.

The purpose of the soul is to guide your bodily actions and thoughts. To keep you in check with the biblical teachings of Christ. Your soul is your personality and your reactions to all of your surroundings. It is the part of you that reacts when you don't have time to think. God bless you.

Sure, the soul. But what makes you think it has a "purpose"? Maybe it's just here like you or me or a tree. What purpose?

You'll get many varied responses here, but it is my belief the soul is our eternal self that goes through all our lives accumulating knowledge and evolving eventually to a higher state of being where we can once again become one with 'God'.

Deuteronomy 12:23 "...the blood is the soul..."
Websters New Collgiaie Dictionary
blood: ‘the fluid that circulates in the heart, arteries, capillaries, and vein of a vertebrate animal carrying nourishment and oxygen to and bringing away waste products from all parts of the body’
note: not all typical religions teach that the spirt returns to God,
QUOTE: ' at death no actual movement from the earth to the heavenly realm occurs when the spirit "returns" to God.'*
