I swear by Tea tree oil. I have never found info saying that it is good for cold sores but from my own experience it works. Tea tree oil is nature natural antiseptic and I originally bought some because of a few stubborn pimples. One day I got a cold sore, and didn't have any medicine, so I started to put on the tea tree oil. My cold sore was zapped and gone within a couple of days. I tried it again when I started to feel the tingle and it worked again, this time within a day since I started using it so soon. It burns a little when you put it on, but it does work wonders. I got my bottle of tea tree oil from the body shop for $8 and it worked for me. Give it a try! Also taking Lysine supplements can reduce the occurance of cold sores since it helps boost the immune system. I used to buy abreva, but at $20 each, its a waste, and it doesn't get rid of my cold sores as fast as it claims.

I like toothpaste also, but first dab with colloidal silver for 60 seconds, dab dry, apply toothpaste, very thinly, you want it to dry, take two aspirin , do five pushups, three sit ups, two somersaults, go to bed, sleep on it, things will be all better in the morning! If not get some of Dr.Sam's medicated ingredients at your local old time general store. Stay away from Wal-Mart. Its a well known petri dish for cold sore and other bacteria!

Don't know of any natural remedies, other than time.

I use a product called "abreva" which is supposed to shorten the duration. Works pretty well, but don't know if it's available north of the border.

Carmex & Blistex are others. Also, after the blister has gone, keep it moist with petroleum jelly, otherwise it cracks & takes forever to heal.

Get Abreva from the nearest Shopper's Drug Mart or Save-On-Foods. Otherwise, try using an ice cube for an immediate fix.

Hold an ice cube on it for as long as you can. That will prevent it from forming (if you do it when you first feel one coming on) and help it heal quickly if you've already got one. It's something about the ice freezing and killing the virus that causes a cold sore.

I would try either clove oil or tea tree oil, just be sure to dilute it a little. Full strength will sting but go away shortly.

A cold sore isn't going to go away instantly but there are over-the-counter products such as Abreva that will make their duration shorter.
