i personally don't drink them, but most people i see at star bucks are fat. 1 of those cups of coffee carry more calories than a meal. I think that is a primary cause to the obesity in the U. S.. I've came to this conclusion due to the companies popularity if you look at how many people go there regularly (it's sort of like the liquid Mcdonalds)! Opinions?????

i don't think starbuck is like any other restaraunt or food place. they nearly have a location in every building. i can't even think of another company that has more locations than starbucks in such broad areas

I can't prove this, but I think excess weight gain can be largely attributed to the combination of overeating and being sedentary.

This is a personal responsibility issue. I don't consider most Starbucks drinks to be "coffee" anyhow! True coffee lovers don't care for all of that excessive milk, sugar, and "flavoring". It's like pouring a bottle of ketchup on a steak. Even true cappuccinos don't contain all of the excess "stuff" which caters to the average American's taste buds. I usually see very fit people at Starbucks (perhaps because it is in a College City). This isn't Starbucks fault.
Starbucks doesn't make anyone consume excessive calories. That is a personal decision.
However, I will agree that drinking high caloric Starbuck's beverages will contribute to one's obesity.

I think preservatives and additives are the major culprits. Like, high fructose corn syrup. That junk is in everything! Many people do not seem to know, that not all overweight people are all fat ,lazy slobs that have no self control. Many diseases can cause obesity. Such as Cushing's Disease,Hypothyroid, Hashimoto's disease, Diabetes,Hypoglycemia,Depression, and several others some scientists even believe that it can be caused by a virus or lack of sleep. The point is, don't judge a person's health as always their own doing.

There are so many causes of obesity in this country it's absurd. Personally, I was overweight (size 14) because I had a lazy, fat, deadbeat husband (who is now a lazy, fat, deadbeat ex-husband). As soon as I ditched him the weight slipped off (took about a year and a half), and now I'm a svelte size 2.
Perhaps bad marriages are the real culprit. Or McDonalds. Or TV. Or suburban sprawl (not enough opportunities to walk). The list goes on...

It's just people's unhealthy eating habits, but I dont think that the weight loss problem in America is because of any specific restaurant/food. So singling out Starbucks isnt right.

If only... if only... if only there was just one cause!!! No, you can't blame starbucks, or macdonalds or A&W or even Burger King... You must really blame America's Gluttonous habits and need for speed. Everyone wants it fast and cheap and easy. People stop eating healthy meals at home and don't bother with portion control. It's Society not the food chains... After all, everything is ok in moderation.

It's people eating high-calorie foods and then not burning off those calories. It doesn't matter what the food is, though soda pop is higher in calories than a regular coffee.

Although Starbuck's products are generally fattening, they are not the problem.
The problem is people's DECISION to eat junk.
Personal choices are the biggest factor in obesity.
