My sister has stolen money from her soon to be mother-in-law. It was a pure desparated situation, only done once. She has gradually earned back her trust. However, she stole a few quarters from a jar in the house, for laundry. She has done this before by her fiance telling her that it was okay. She is now trying to prove to her fiance and his mom that she is not back to her old ways and to continue trusting her. How can she prove to them that she is not back to her old ways?

You need to explain to your sister that if it will take forever to build trust but if she did these things like stealing quartersl, then his mother will simply brainwash him to marry a more trustworthy woman. No offense but she might not like your sister for what your sister has done.
If you were your sister's mother-in-law, would you want your son's wife to be untrustworthy?

She should consider her case of stealing as borrowing without permission under desparate situation. She should disclose the fact completely to her fiance and soo to be mother in law at the earliest to win over the Trust. This should have been done soon after the event of stealing. But it is better to check with a psychiatrist whether she has any problem whenever she sees other'smoney lying offers opportunity to take it awaty. In that case she should get treated first.
