This is an interesting question - I don't think I've seen it before. Kudos!
Well, for folks who are happy with their tats, no matter when, those who hate can only say "you'll regret it"... rather whiney when you get down to it, kind of like "you'll poke your eye out!" or "why can't you date a nice boy?"
But, when one of these whiners finds someone that actually does regret their tat, for whatever reason, all of a sudden they have proof. Proof! See, they were right! Everyone who gets a tat hates them, gets fired from their job & lives on the street. Oh, and doesn't score with the nurses at the rest home when they're 80 (hopefully male & female nurses for both sexes there).
It's not that they're mad, it's that they need to shout out loud what's happened so they can say they have *some* proof. So few actually do that they have to shout *extra* loud, especially when someone like yourself owns up to it & doesn't try to put the blame on anyone else - colloquially called " being an adult". If the whiners don't make a lot of noise, it's noticed that even the relatively few who dislike their tat are not quite the proof they wanted.

Well, it depends on who you're talking to, age group wise, that is. From my experience, its the baby boomers who to me, are anti-tattooing. They are anti-tattoos because their parents got them, and the boomers themselves were a bit on the conservative side on their views. You ask anyone who lived in WWI and WWII as an adult, they clearly accept tattoos! I had a lady tell me how pretty (its an hourglass...how can it be pretty!?) my foot tattoo really is. Generation X, and any young adults (as in old enough to get a tattoo) are very accepting of it. Really, I agree, its cool to just live life up, but I can see their point, "Why pay the price just to take it off later?!" its not like our prom dresses, where you can put it on again when you want it...its supposed to be permanent for a reason. I don't regret my tattoo, and never will, but people will have your opinions, and some people care a bit too much what they think...meh.

Tattoo's, for alot of people, are impulsive.
Sure...some people take alot of time to think about what they want, what significance it might hold for them as they get older...but some just jump in the chair without giving it much thought. They find a random picture at the parlor and go for it.
It's not that I think anyone has been stupid to get a tattoo, I have 2...but I always tell friends when they mention it, be sure its something you really love and will enjoy looking at for years.
There will always be a segement of society that judges our choices, whatever they may be. And that's fine. Let them! As individuals, we ALL judge at one time or another. The only opinion that matters is your own.
And a recommendation, try and find something you really really like to cover it. Lasering...ohhh. Not fun and expensive. It would be cheaper, not to mention less discomfort, to just get it covered. Good luck!

I'm pretty sure that people who don't have tattoos see someone with a tattoo say "i messed up" it's proving their point that we're "disgusting" and lesf of a human as them for making a mistake. it's pretty stupid, actaully...
i know a lot of people who are very anti-tattoo, turns out... a few of them are jealous of the "do what you want with your own body" attitude. and they feel that they can't pull it off themself. to each his own...
i love tattoos, but i'm not going to jump down someones throat for not getting one. :P they should be the same way for someone who IS getting one.
let them think what they want. everyone says "it's going to look bad in 30 years. what are you going to say to your grandkids?" i'll tell them this: "i had fun when i was 18. which is a lot more than someone who didn't do what they wanted to can say."

Some people get tattoos at different points of their life and that is like a map of their life, however some people want to erase the road that made them who they are. And that should people THEIR decision. Regardless people have opinions that should be keep to themselves and not judge!! I'm sure they are not perfect and would not want anyone judging them.

I think the reason SOME people get upset is because it gives tattoos a bad name. The more people who regret their tattoos, the more people are going to say they're a bad/stupid idea - which they are not!

Some people have nothing better to do than worry about what everyone else is doing... if they put as much energy into themselves as they do into other people, then maybe they will be doing something =] Be cool and live your life is a really good way to look at things! =]

I think it's because people are always judging what they don't understand.
Instead of having it removed, have you thought of covering it with a new tat? I'm in the process of doing that. I had an old tat from about 10 years ago that I wasn't too crazy about anymore, so I'm covering it with a cherry blossom branch and some blooms. I'm about 90% done. I love it. Good luck!

Yeah, I agree. It's none of their business but asking a question on here about something that not everyone agrees with can be quite contriversal. It leaves whoever asks the question vulnerable to those who don't really have the right to be sayin' those things. I can go either way on how I feel on tattoos but all that matters to me is any that would be on my own body.

I think the non-tattoo people are a little envious of those people who have a tattoo. When they see one of us regret our decision, they feel superior.
