It's not only wrong it's unethical. and as my German grandmother used to say :"Lying has short legs." Meaning lies don't go far! They only get you in trouble so why even lying?

The ninth commandment prohibits bearing false witness (Exodus 20:16). Proverbs 6:16-18 lists “a lying tongue” and “a false witness that speaketh lies” as two of the seven abominations to the Lord. Love “rejoiceth in the truth” (1 Corinthians 13:6). See also Psalm 119:29, 163; 120:2; Proverbs 12:22; 13:5; Ephesians 4:25; and Colossians 3:9.
There are many examples of liars in Scripture, from Jacob’s deceit in Genesis 27 to the pretense of Ananias and Sapphira in Acts 5. Time after time, we see that falsehood leads to misery, loss, and judgment.
Sometimes a question arises concerning lies that seem to have positive results. For example, the lie the Hebrew midwives tell Pharaoh seems to result in the Lord’s blessing (Exodus 1:15-21). However, it should be obvious that the Lord is blessing the midwives’ rescue of the children, rather than any falsehood they told. God in His mercy blessed them in spite of the lie, rather than because of it.
Another example is Rahab’s lie in Joshua 2:5. God never condones her lie, but He does forgive it. Rahab’s life is spared in response to her faith, which she expresses in verses 9-11. God not only forgives Rahab’s lying, but also her idolatry and harlotry—another example of God’s mercy in action.

It's not one of the ten commandments like some people think, but it is condemned elsewhere in the Bible. Still, it's allowed under some circumstances as a sort of a necessary evil if it is used to prevent a greater evil. But just generally you see in the bible again and again that if you do it, you're just a lying scumbucket.

On the most simple plane, lying is wrong because it creates an expectation that will be disappointed. For example, if you say to a young lady whom you've just met, "I'll call you tomorrow," and have no intention of calling her, you have created an expectation in her that she will hear from you. When she does not hear from you she may become disappointed or angry or bitter. None of these is pleasant.

It depends on the circumstances. Sometimes lying can be beneficial to everyone. If the circumstances make it only beneficial to yourself and others pay a price for your lie, then it is wrong.

Lying is ALMOST ALWAYS wrong, even when you say "This tastes good" when it clearly doesn't.
The only UnSINFULLY way to lie is to save your family from falling apart OR if you tell a half truth.

Leviticus 19:11 You shall not steal, nor deal falsley, nor lie to one another
It is also a commandment. "thou shalt not bear false witness"
Everyone lies. Little white lies are lies just the same. It is man that puts levels on sin. To God a lie and a murder are the same. A sin. Man is not perfect. We are all born sinners. God doesn't expect us to be perfect. When we are saved we should feel the need to do better, and we should always ask for forgiveness daily.
God Bless and good luck with your quest for truth

Because it's misleading. Jesus said that Satan was the father of the lie when he spoke to the Pharisees of his time. When you lie, you are purposefully misleading another person for (most likely) your own gain. So lying brings you closer to Satan rather than God.

Lying serves two purposes:
1) To make others feel better about us, or
2) to make US feel better about ourselves.
It is based in pride, and scriptures says that is an abomination.

It's wrong when it hurts others because it hurts them. That is all.
Morality:
Hurting=bad
helping=good
And I don't need any gods to tell me that.
I guess 'themalator' and 'godfreak' would have no problem with lying if their god didn't forbid it?
