I've got a 4 runner and I wanted to know the price range for a pretty nice sound system with good bass. And what brands are better than others.

You can get a good system starting at $500 if you know where and how to shop. People that spend $1000 and higher don't know how to do this.

I got my two subs, amp, wiring kit, enclosure, RF modulator and capacitor for less than $550. I'm running 200 watts RMS X 2 @ 4 ohms and hitting about 160 dB.

__________

I didn't change my speakers as they didn't need replacing.

Just to put subs in my car with the cheapest stuff I could find I spent:
$150 for amp
$100 for headunit
$20 for MDF, $8 for fabric, $5 for terminals, $2 for screws
$120 for two 12 inch subs
$30 for wiring
TOTAL: $435

Note that I did not upgrade the in car speakers. All I wanted at the moment was hefty bass, so I figured I'd hold on to the car speakers until they destroy themselves. Plus, I saved alot of money by building my own box, and it was custom and unique.

I can't believe how much bass I have now. Then again, I've never really heard a pro sound system before. But for the price I think its great; I'm content.

If you want to buy a great-sounding all around system, I would set a minimum budget of $800. If you are willing to buy used, however, you can shave a few hundred off of that.

Most brands have their advantages and disadvantages - but a few common brands that I would stay away from would be sony, audiobahn, legacy, pyle, pyramid, volfenhag, bazooka, insignia, and some others.

what year 4runner? and whats your spending limit? it really depends on your pricerange. you can go cheap for under 1000 or mid to highend 3000-5000. sparky u may have only paid 550 but what about speakers? and it depends what u want. if u want basic, replacing ur speakers, headunit, adding subs and an amp ur looking around 1000. if u wanted to turn ur 4speaker car into a 10speaker car and add subs ur lookin at around 5000
