It's a poem:
"I ask you sir to plant a grove
to show that I'm your lady love
This grove though small must be composed of 25 trees in12 straight rows.
In each row 5 trees you must place,
or you shall never see my face."

I can't solve it. I need help!

the name of the novel is "A Bride Most Begrudging" by D. Gist - for anyone who has to know where this puzzle comes from...

That doesn't make much sense. To have 5 trees in a row with 12 rows would be 60 trees, not 25.

a 5*5 square--
5 horizontal rows, 5 vertical, 2 diagonal.

plant them in a 5x5 square.. that way u can have straight rows and 12 rows if u count correctly
