I have a Mynah bird as a pet, they are part of the starling family, not a parrot! She has a few bulgy lumps over her beak and above one eye. They dont seem to bother her too much, she scratches it a little, but doesnt seem stressed or itchy. I bathed it in saline so now it looks clean, but it doesnt seem to get any better, or worse! Ive kept and bred birds(from lovebirds to ducks) for years, but Ive never had a Mynah bird, and Ive never seen this particular thing before. I thought it might be a form of scaly face, but I thought it only affected parrots. I dont want to just start slapping things on it(iodine or parrafin) in case its the wrong thing. It looks a lot like cold sores, but I didnt think birds could catch it.
Any information would be much appreciated.

Thankyou again, but its ME that gave it to HER not the other way around! Im not entirely sure it IS cold sores, they are bulgy in a similar way but have not opened as cold sores tend to do. Since she is feral in this country, the only literature or advice available is how to eradicate them.No one knows or cares about their ailments. At least now I know it could be a cold sore.

I don't think they can catch it, but what you are describing sounds very suspicious. Take her to an avian vet to find out what the lumps are and how to treat them.

Kudos for you with not wanting to just blindly treat your bird! Sometimes home remedies are worse than the proper ones!

Hi there. Sorry for your troubles. Herpes simplex 1 is the virus that causes most cold sores and can be transmitted by birds and passed on to humans. Though there is no cure, management is a lot better than in the past with drugs like Zovirax which is a topical ointment but does have an oral form. Good hand washing is imperative when handling birds in general to prevent cross contamination. Your avian vet can help you with this. The sores are open and or present with fluid filled vesicles. May your bird get the help he/she needs soon. This will get better. Have a great day everyday.

RE: Is it worry-free to capture chilly sore herpe virus from sharing a drink? ? there grew to become right into a woman at this occasion that is going to my college. I by no skill heard rumors approximately her getting chilly sores or something yet i accidently drank from her glass with coke. Now what are the possibilities of me catching the virus a week later if she had no seen sore? ( i checked the photos and her lips have been healthful ) is this virus evaluate a sexual element the place you will desire to have epidermis to epidermis touch including oral intercourse to get it? (btw, i by no skill kissed a woman in my life that's a shame because of the fact i'm 17 and hate being kissed as a sprint toddler. My mothers and dads could pull me removed from everyone who tries and no person in my family contributors has it the two ) If the way of catching the virus is a lot to slender i doubt it grew to become right into a cold sore.
