A *very, very* wise and peaceful man and lawyer who was instrumental in freeing India from British rule. Some quotes:

"I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ." – Mohandas Gandhi
"To believe in something, and not to live it, is dishonest."
"An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind."
"I think it would be a good idea." -- Mahatma Gandhi, when asked what he thought of Western civilization

His daughter, Indira Gandhi was PM of India, too. Both were assassinated, IIRC. Googling full name of each will get you lots, and of course Wikipedia isn't a bad place to start. Note that there are multiple ways of spelling his first name.

Originally trained as a lawyer, he was a central figure in the Indian indepedence movement in the early to mid 20th century.

A Hindu, he was heavily influenced by the Jain concept of non-violence, and developed this as a political philosophy and strategy. Martin Luther King carried the idea into the civil rights movement in the US.

His vision of India was strongly secular. He was assasinated by a Hindu extremist in 1948.

Incidentally, the Gandhi family who feature so prominently in the Congress Party in post independence India are not related: they are the descendents of Jawaharlal Nehru, Gandhi's close colleague, and the first prime minister of India.

He was an Indian man from India. His claim to fame was he lead the Indian people in a peaceful protest against the British and helped free his country from British rule.
He got his ideas from Henry David Thorow.
MLK did an imitation of it in this country and got a lot more credit for his efforts.

This short little Indian dude who was given a star by the military for his work in controlling blacks. He also had a passion for watching girls take a ****, as well as sleeping with younger woman. Like 60 years younger.

He also suggested that the Jews should have been even more passive during the holocaust. Although unfortunately too busy to himself go to one of the camps, his encouragement was inspiring.

Ghandi was a "real" Christian. If you read what Jesus actually says in the Bible, rather than what Paul and Peter and Church Empires have said about what they think Jesus meant, then you will understand what I mean by saying, "Ghandi was a real Christian (follower of Jesus' teachings) .And by the way, Ghandi was also a great harmony-loving and harmony-inducing asset to our confused world.
