Blood is pumped through a series of arteries and veins called the circulatory system. Lets say that blood travels from your leg to your heart and back to your leg. The blood will travel through a series of veinsand venuoles (smaller veins) to the Vena Cava (the largest vein in your body). The blood then travels to the heart, through the heart's cavities, to the lungs to be oxygenated, back to the heart and through the Aorta (the largest artery in the body) to be delivered to the appropriate organs and tissues.

It goes through tiny little tubes called capillaries, one cell at a time, single file. It's in these capillaries that all the gas exchanges take place, you know, dropping off oxygen to the tissues, and taking away carbon dioxide and other waste products. It travels in the arteries out to the capillaries, and in the veins back from the capillaries. Then when it gets back, it goes thru the heart, out to the lungs for a recharge of oxygen, back to the heart, and then out in the arteries again for another circuit.

Your arteries are connected to your veins and so when the artery pumps blood through it, the blood will flow directly into your veins.

It goes out into capillaries and feeds oxygen to the tissues before it goes back into the veins.
