everyone including my doctor has told me that working out (lifting) may result in a decrease of height if you lift at an early age. my gym told me different. what is the truth?

wait till you are at 13 or when u hit puberty just do cardio for now like running,, lifting too heavily can damage ur growth plates and prevent u from growing to ur max height.. just run and jog no lifting till u reach 13 or puberty( if over 13 then go ahead )

I don't think it will decrease your height. However unless you're post puberty you are not chemically and hormonally mature so you probably won't be able to acheive much hypertrophy. Also you may lack the proper balance and technicque that is required to lift safely and effectively. You are probably better off playing sports to stay in shape unless you are post puberty.

It can't decrease growth. I never heard this but I heard it can stunt growth. It is ok to lift weights early just don't overdo it. Lift light weights. (aim for 20 reps) By lifting early, you will be stronger when you grow and have stronger bones/muscles.

yea i started lifting at age 18 and literally lost 1 inch from 6'2"1/2 to 6'1"1/2 from just doing benching, bicep curls and triceps
