They speak the indigenous language of Kazakh and the imperial language of Russian. Near the border with Kyrgyzstan, they also speak Kyrgyz. Kyrgyz, Kazakh, Uzbek....they're mutually intelligible because theyre all in the same family of languages.

When Kazakhstan was a soviet republic, the most spoken language by far was russian, as in the whole USSR. Now, the kazakh language is having a rebirth since Kazakhstan is independent now, but russian is still more spoken than kazakh.
