Not if the school is accredited. Remember that the basics are taught in all disciplines and the the goal of education is not necessarily to dump information into your brain, but to teach you to learn how to learn. You will never get to know everything, so a wise school teaches you how to find what you do need to kow, how to manipulate and use it, and most importantly how to explain what you figured out to everybody else in a language that the average person can understand. This is even true of performing arts colleges. By the way, if you get a degree in performance, minor in teaching. You may not get your big break immediately and it sure is handy when you are accredited too, and can get a job!

They learn their art along with academics, similar to a tech school. They have to take academics by law.

I think it would depend on the school. My son attends a fine arts school and he has plenty of Acadamics. But he is in elementary school.
If you attend a University Arts program, you need to do academics as well (at least in Canada)

Its required my law for a school to teach academics, they have to teach a certain curriculum that each state sets. Now if its a college type school then its your choice because they are more private then say a high school.
