Semi-sweet chocolate usually has somewhere between 35% -50% chocolate liquor content. It is much the same as bittersweet, the main difference being that semi-sweet has more sugar than the bittersweet, but about the same chocolate liquor content.

Unsweetened chocolate is 100% chocolate liquor.

Milk chocolate on the other hand has only about 10% chocolate liquor and a larger percentage of milk solids.

Semi-sweet chocolate is sometimes sold as "dark chocolate" and is a very popular chocolate chip designation for making chocolate chip cookies.

Many chocolatiers are labeling their products with the percentages of chocolate liquor noted on the packaging making it much easier for the consumer to purchase the product that has the amount of bitterness or sweetness desired.

This is a dark chocolate with less sugar than the regular chocolate. It comes in bars & chips. I seen it in my grocery store. Hersheys, Ghiradelli & Nestle are some of the brands.
