We are not idiots. What you heard was a prayer language, in Acts Chapter 2 it says in verses 1-4. When the day of pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place, and suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the spirit gave them utterance. Some people may still suggest that it was just something that happened back then and isn't supposed to be used today, but the bible also says in 1 Corinthians 13:8-11. LOve never fail. But wheather there are prophecies, they will fail: wheather there are tongues, they will cease: wheather there is knowledge,it will vanish away. for we know in part and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect has come. then that which is in part will be done away. Jesus hasn't returned yet their fore tongues can still be used today. To get a better understanding please read Acts Chapter 2 and 1 Corinthians Chapter 14. It is my prayer that you gain better understanding of this.

Your ignorance shines brightly my dear.... so when you hear someone speaking chinese would you change the channel and have the same thought or was it just because it was linked to "religion" that you have this disrespectful attitude?
I personally don't speak in tongues and I don't understand it completly, and that's ok, but you young lady are disrespectful and should well learn some respect and basic manors and stop ridiculing something which you obviously don't understand.
Tongues is based on the holy ghost speaking through you, it is not a language that you are supposed to understand in the natural ear. It is something that the spirit understands. It is not crap and they are not freaks or idiots. They are expressing their faith and are not afraid to stand up for what they believe in. It is not bad and I think it bothers you so much and causes you to change the channel because I pray that the holy spirit is causing some conviction in you.
Learn my dear and stop judging so harshly what you don't understand. And if you dont have anything nice to say, don;t say anything at all... maybe you wont be a top contributor but youll be a better person for it I bet.

You are not the only one. I do believe that Speaking an unlearned language is the initial sign of the baptism with the Holy Ghost, and there is also a spiritual gift of tongues. However, tongues is not the only evidence, and I think it is a mistake to automatically assume that someone is Spirit-filled merely because they make a noise. The examples in Acts refer to people speaking in tongues "as the Spirit gave utterance," not whenever they happened to choose. I certainly believe in miracles and spiritual gifts, but not for entertainment.

They use one line in the bible about the apostles speaking to folks in their own languages as an excuse to babble incoherently and draw attention to themselves. Its one of two things; a play for attention (I'm holier and better than you because i do this) or the result of pressure to conform to standards they've been brainwashed to believe (this is what i have to do to show i have the "holy ghost") Anything else is a symptom of mental illness and they should seek professional help.
The only thing that makes me sicker than hearing that junk is when they start hounding people to give them money and passing the plate afterward. Can't believe I was once brainwashed enough to think it meant something. Glad I spent a few years studying the texts, and testing the teachings.

Hi, lol. what if someone translates what you've written...would you believe then?..
To be serious for a moment, if you don't want the gift of tongues you won't receive it, but it's exciting when you do...in Acts ch2, some believed and some didn't. The Apostle Paul tells us to eagerly desire the spiritual gifts of which the gift of tongues is one. It can be a beautiful language between ourselves and Almighty God.
Having said that i don't know of the TV program your speaking of so i can't comment on it...hope this helps...

As one who has had that spiritual gift for almost 20 years, I can tell you that the people who get all the attention are the ones who are "in the flesh" with it because there isn't anything innately about the gift of tongues that makes a person odd, strange, goofy or turns one into a religious fanatic. Your objection is duly noted, but it is not with the Gift of Tongues, it is with certain types of people in the religious sector who give it a bad rap.

It is not a personal religious practice of mine, but I don't want to make fun of other people's beliefs. Speaking in tongues is a very important component of some people's religious beliefs. They view it as an indwelling of the Holy Spirit, and the early apostles spoke in tongues in the New Testament.

I'm going to pray that your spiritual eyes be enlightened......
Ok, You will be shown what's happening.
I once was a Prayer Warrior in a church until I found out the Pastor wasn't right. The Lord was giving me dreams to show what was happening. The preacher was a Sorcerer !!! I got out of that as soon as possible ! I, have received the Baptism of the Holy Ghost WITH evidence of "speaking in tongues ". At the time I was being baptized, tongues ROLLED from my mouth, giving intersession and praise to our Lord, and in humbleness and prostrate, relinquishing ALL to the FLOOD of the SPIRIT. I was getting cleansed and SEALED.
There are impostors ( put forth by Satan ), and there really IS evidence.
The baptism EMPOWERS one of Gods chosen to do a work for HIM !
The FAKE is Satans tool to discredit the REAL.
ps..... I do PRAY in tongues, because that is the PERFECT prayer because it goes beyond OUR stinking thinking ! The Spirit knows what to pray for. WE get tangled up in looking at things in the NATURAL way....HELLO !!!
If you see someone trying to teach someone to speak in tongues, WARN the person, and get out of there !!!!!!!!!

Ya I'm not sure how I feel about this. I have witnessed it once, but wasnt sure of the validity of it. Everyone has their own beliefs and like Solarius said, its kinda petty to take a stance like that on it.
