If you are eligible for traffic school and plead guilty, your ability to take traffic school is guaranteed.

If you decide to go with a trial (whether in-person, or by-declaration), your ability to attend traffic school is up to the judge. You can certainly ask the judge, but no guarantees.

I've heard that if you challenge the ticket you forfeit your shot at traffic school. However when I did a trial by declaration and lost, they offered me traffic school. Definitely, ask for it!
