Don't worry so much it's OK if, your both mature and your parents don't care or if your emancipated (like my fiancee`). Don't let anyone come between you and the one you love. I'm 20 and my Fiancee` is 16 so just do what your heart and your brain tells you too. Please remember tho not all guys are sweet kind and caring (like myself) so just know who your messing with.

You basically said what I think. As long as you are on the same level. many people overlook the fact there more in a relationship then just looks, sex and money. I know someone who is in a 13 year relationship and is about 8 year apart from his wife. I have never seen a better pair. When you're younger age seems to be more of something that divides people. Does a 5 year old hang out with a 12 year old? But once you’re older that all changes; When you mature.

I think a 21 year old dating a 16 year old is statutory rape.
I think a 21 year old is generally immature, so where does that put the 16 year old?
as both people are older (say 21yo & 26yo - not so much difference, but a teenager should be dating a teenager.
No, I don't have kids. mark my words, when you are 21 - look back at how you were at 16 - you will see a world of difference.
Even the difference from 20-25 - you'll look back and say things like " I can't believe I thought that (whatever) was a good idea etc.

Depending where you live can determine if should date an older person if you are under 18, but I think if two people are post pubescent they should be allowed to date as long as the age difference isn't too great, you wouldn't want an 16 year girl dating a 50 year man or anything. Our grandparents or great parents if young young where getting married around 14 years of age for the girls and a few years older for the boys, and the girls where marring men who could take care of them financially so some of them where marrying men in their 40's or older.
If you are 16 and he is 21 and are intimate with each other, whether you consent or not, he can be charged with statutory rape and can be sent to jail and have to register as a sex offender. ( at least in the USA ). If you love him please keep this in mind.

It's true that someone 16 may meet a 21-year-old that they relate to. I take it from your question that you are wondering about having a physical relationship with this person. The law is there for a reason - to protect people who are not yet adults, and who have not yet had enough life experience to make the decision for themselves. The older you get, the less a 5-year difference in age will matter. But right now, it matters.

If you are as mature as you seem to think you are I was wondering a couple of things. (Legally it doesn't matter what you think about your maturity,,,,you are under age).
Are you willing to allow your parent's to do their job and live with the decision they make for you at this time?
By this I mean that you have told them about the young man and whether or not they are even going to get an opportunity to discuss it as parent's and with you. That's what a mature person would do.
The legal confusion? That's why they call men pedifiles, who try to be with children. And until your 18 yrs old, that's your classification. Why isn't this young man with someone his own age. Why is he finding it necessary to invite you into his adult world when there is so much you won't be able to do in the adult world.?
Have you made other decisions about your future.
What's your current GPA? Are you going to college?
Are there any younger sister's watching what's going on with this situation?
The reason the laws are set up the way they are is because children (any one under 18) can have their lives litterally ruined by an adult trying to get his way...you know the notch on the belt syndrome kind of thing....love to get 'em and leave 'em. Believe me these guys are out there..
If your young man is really for you,,,he'll wait until you are an adult, plain and simple. Your brain (physically) isn't even fully matured until your 18 - 21.... That's why the answer to your question belongs to your parents'.

Regardless of the fact that you think you are mature, and certainly there is the chance that your 21 yr old is as immature as any average 16 year old, it is a bad idea. The laws are set up to protect teens who think they are saavy and mature from predator adults, which take advantage of emotionally naive teens. Perhaps your boyfriend is sincere, it does not matter, he will want sex and you will want to provide it and if anything goes wrong and your parents take a dislike to this man, he will end up in court and carrying the stigma of sexual predator for the rest of his life. Find someone your own age before trouble arises, the likelihood of the two of you getting married and living happily ever after is incredibly remote to begin with due to both your ages, if it is meant to be, it can wait until you are 18.

You are 16 and it sounds like fun to date an older guy but you are still just a kid. When he is going out with his friends to a bar and picking up girls his own age you will be stuck at home with your parents and I don't think they would be cool with him coming over at 3am when they close. There are a lot of things you two will not be able to do together that 21 year old guys find fun. I can guarantee you that he will keep you hidden from his circle of friends because as much as you would like to think you are on the same level, you are not. His friends will tease him for you. Stick with guys your own age range. 21 is too old for a 16 year old girl. I can tell you that because I used to be like you when I was a kid and trust me, they aren't interested in you as a person. You DO NOT have the same experiences to bond over and he is not really interested in knowing how high school is. He's already been there done that and doesn't want to do it again. He just wants to get in your pants a few times, then when he's done with you, he's going to go out with his buddies and meet women his own age. Wait to date older guys when you are older. You are still a MINOR and it is ILLEGAL for you two to date. There is logic behind that law even though I know you think it shouldn't apply to you. You are just TOO YOUNG!! Good luck anyway and get ready to have a broken heart.

True, you must consider the legal side as well as the emotional side. Legallly, he could get into alot of trouble if you two are sexually active, with or without your parents consent. Emotionally: My parents are 17 (yes, seventeen) years apart from each other. And they have been married and very much in love for 30 years now. Age does not matter if two people and on the same maturity level and devoted to each other. But do be carefull about the law, please. And, don't commit yourself too soon. You have alot of life head of you.

I am unsure why it would be illegal as here in Canada the age on consent is 14. I guess it depends where you live. I myself have always had older boyfriends. When I was 17 my boyfriend was 24. I too was mature for my age. I don't think there is anything wrong with it as long as he doesn't push you into things you are not ready for or keeps you away from the experiences and friends you should have at your age. None of the relationships in which there was a major age gap worked out for me long term. (2 lasted over 3 years each). My fiance is the same age as me. So I can't predict long term how things will work out but if you have your parents blessing, best of luck to you.

I think any 16-20 year old female dating a male 21 or over is asking for trouble. Thats bar age. He can go places that you cannot go and do things there that will haunt your thoughts and make for nothing but drama.
If he is respectful, doesn't go to bars and is well known by you and your family, you have parental permission and you are practicing safe sex...well, then I guess its an individual thing.
