Go onto www.irs.gov...and look for filing instructions for your 1040. It will either ask you if you are filing with or without a refund. Also, make sure to look that you are clicking on the section that you are the one filing not a tax preparer. The addresses are different if you have a tax preparer or filing on your own. I know in CA an individual that is filing will send it to a Fresno, CA 93888 address and if it's a preparer filing then it will be sent to an Ogden, UT 84201 address...Also, on your 1040 the line will most likely tell you (that is if you aren't using Pfx Tax Preparation).

But if you are talking about S or C corps for CA....then those addresses will usually be Ogden, UT 84201-0011 (if you don't owe). But if you are talking about an Estate, Gift Tax, or Fiduciary Tax return then those addresses will be different for each form.

My suggestion is to just go to the IRS website...it's easy to navigate.

There are different addresses depending on the state you live in, which 1040 version you're filing, and whether you are enclosing a payment or not.

Download the instructions for the form you're filing (1040, 1040A or 1040EZ and look toward the end of the instructions, last page.

It's in the instructions for the form you're filing.
