Ever since Poland officially adopted Latin Christianity in 966, the Roman Catholic Church has played a very important religious, cultural, social and political role. Today, Poland is arguably the most religious country in the Western world outside of Latin America.
For centuries, Poland has been a predominantly Roman Catholic country, and for most Poles identity is a unique combination of national and religious beliefs. During the times of foreign oppression, the Catholic Church remained for many Poles the primary source of moral values and the last bulwark in the fight for independence and national survival. The establishment of communist power had little effect on religious practices and feelings of most Poles. The communist authorities did not manage to subjugate the Catholic Church, which preserved its autonomy, became the most powerful independent Polish national organization, and in the 1970's assumed the role as mediator between the regime and the rebellious population. The 1978 election of Cardinal Karol Wojtyla as Pope John Paul II contributed greatly to the fall of communism in Poland and all over the world.
According to the office of Polish statistics, 37,609,000 persons, about 96 percent of the entire population of Poland, belonged to the Roman Catholic Church in 2000. Over 80 percent of them declare that they attend mass regularly. The remaining 1 million non-Roman Catholic Poles profess no religion or belong to over forty other denominations.
you need to realize this too.... when poland didn't exist for over 180 YEARS the only way the culture, langage and history stayed alive was within the churches. even my grandparents who were born in Russia & Austria - technically - claimed to be Polish and spoke Polish. this is the heritage of the Poles - their mighty struggle and how their faith helped them maintain their culture & heritage.

Pastor Billy says: because Tomass Catholics were the first Evangelicals! Much of Eastern Europe was converted to the Western Church (Catholicism). At one time in history Poland stretched from the Baltic all the way to the Black Sea hence many Ukrainians are also Roman Catholic and not Russia or Greek Orthodox or in this case Ukrainian Orthodox.
The Teutonic Knights a religious order of monks entered the region in a crusade to convert the people to Christianity. They were successful in the Baltic states Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania and Poland. Currently the state of Poland is undergoing much change and not always for the better. In the past the Catholic Church was the one voice of people against the Communists. Now with Communism defeated the new enemy are invading cults, pseudo-sects of Christianity, TV evangelist architypes, commericalism, materialism, Western atheism etc etc etc..
We must pray Poland continues to finds new strength in the Catholic faith and continues to renew itself while in the arms of Church.

I've never really studied the demographics of Poland, so I am not entirely sure why it is such a Roman Catholic nation. Possibly if you were to study the demographics of Poland you would be able to see why it is so Catholic. Also, if you were to study the demographics of other nations, such as Saudi Arabia, which was suggested by someone else, or the United States or Canada, then you would have a chance to see why they have such religious convictions as they do. Happy studying!

The answer is "grace".
Poles are smart and hard working people, with innate good sense, given to them by God.
They have also suffered a lot, and suffering is a gift from God, which often brings us closer to him.
They also have the example of one of the greatest popes in history, John Paul II, who not only freed Poland from Soviet domination, but he began the chain of events that freed all of eastern Europe from communist rule.
John Paul II's personal example made him the "George Washington" of Poland, and most people like to emulate heroes.

As underdude grew to become into asserting; "For all have sinned and fall shorth of the dignity of God." Romans 3:23. no one is ideal. Christians are not appropriate. Athiests are not appropriate. Athiests are everywhere. Christians are everywhere. purely because of fact there's a low crime value and a severe p.c. of the inhabitants is Athiest, does no longer mean that Athiests are extra ideal. i do no longer think of that Christians are extra ideal than Athiests, and that i do no longer think of Athiests are extra ideal than Christians. we are all sinners, for this reason all of us should flow to Hell. i'm unlikely to take a seat and argue with you that Hell is genuine, yet once you refuse to have faith then it extremely is your loss. Please. As Christians, we purely % to share our faith and in basic terms wish which you comprehend. anyhow, you will all be in my prayers. God bless you! :)
