It is a common misconception to many religions that Mindfulness meditation is where one is going to empty his mind/blank his mind out, and allow evil entities and evil spirits into his mind to take control over him.
This is non-sensical, and is furthest from the truth.
Mindfulness Meditation helps one to relax, calm down, deal with stress, anxiety, sadness, and the unsatisfactoriness of life, and brings one a very stable peace of mind.
But it does much more than this.
In mindfulness meditation we are the scientist, and our mind is the laboratory.
We objectively look at our own experiences,
at our own thoughts attentively without getting caught up in them. This helps us to see ourselves as we really are.

You ask about breathing. "Breathing in Mindfulness Meditation, is the central focus of our thoughts. We allow ourselves to see our experiences courageously as they really are, but before we anxiously get caught up in them, we gently, and patiently bring our attention back "to the Breath" The breath is the central focus.

*There is a book out that would help you to learn to practice the MIndfulness of Breathing = Mindfulness meditation.
It is called "Mindfulness in Plain English"
And just 2 days ago I discovered this
$18.00 book offered for FREE download at the site below:

http://www.vipassana.com/meditation/mindfulness_in_plain_english.php

Pages 69 - 148 are the pages I encourage you to mostly focus on, to learn and cultivate excellent breathing skills for mindfulness meditations. It is helpful to be gentle and very patient with yourself as you learn, and to practice daily, even if only 10 min. a day. As time permits, and as your progress, add a little more time. Do not force anything, or have too high expectations. Patiently, take one day at a time.

The Book does not make any attempts to convert a person from their religion.
Anyone can practice Mindfulness meditation
the mindfulness of breathing.

Hope this helps some. And Thank You for giving me the opportunity to provide you with "an" answer to your excellent question.
Have an optimistically fantastic wk/weekend!

Catholic spirituality is more closely connected to that of Eastern Orthodoxy than protestantism is. Centering Prayer is a form of meditation and the Catholic Church has had a long line of mystics to be canonized as saints through the centuries. Christian Mysticism is a valid and orthodox part of Christianity, often called Contemplative Prayer. So the answer is an exuberant NO.

It is not against that religion to meditate. Meditation is for the spirit and body and mind to come together and regain focus. How can that be against someones religion?! Common sense just tells me no. If you are in a religious sect that tells you meditation is wrong get out now!!!

You think it may be true that meditating is against religion yet you want to learn how. Then why listen to our answers? Meditation is an emptying of the mind which opens the mind for Satan to control. If you don't mind being controlled by Satan, by all means, meditate.

No. It depends on what kind. Lectio Divina has been practiced by good Catholics of all kinds, clergy and lay alike, for centuries.
