anyway.. like it is a desiese i guess but .. its really not.. if u think about it...it kinda makes u feel good that u lose weight.. like seriously arent anorexic ppl happy that they r ... anorexic? i mean.. isnt it .. like having pride.. its actually .. in my opinion a cool thing, like and you have to decide to be anorexic, it cant be inherinted!! i mean back in the day, being fat was like awsome, i dont think that anyone wanted to be skinny, like anorexia isnt the acutal desise i think that it causes other problems, and i seriosuly think its stupid and pointless, and seriously like i can kinda relate and why would u want to put ur self through all that? and u would make ur family pay for medical bills, if u were anorexic, which is a total waist of $ its like a pointless problem, like i see as cancer being a problem, aids, heart attacks, theres a point for that, i seriously think that its there choice to be that way, and that they want attention because ppl will see u not eatting.

Anorexia is a disorder, not a disease. It is a problematic behavior because typically people who are anorexic weigh less than what would be expected by their height and age. It 's primary feature revolves around dysfunctional thinking-thinking you are fat when all the evidence says the opposite.

Common side effects of anorexia include amenorhhea (no period, which influences your ability to procreate). It can also cause heart damage and kidney problems.

I think it is a conglomeration of things. The thing is like anything in life it is not the act of having something wrong with you it is the manifestation of what that can produce.

For example if someone had been teased at school or abused or just no self esteem at all it can manifest in thinking of your self as the enemy. And then it results into things like Anorexia or Bulimia and so the list goes on.

It is a "disease" in the way that it has a certain enabling of the body weather it is the warped view of your body or the repercussions of what anorexia can produce. (such as organ failure, heart failure etc etc) Thus it is a sickness.

Most people like any drug once your hooked your hooked and you don't generally need much to keep you in denial.
So Anorexia and other eating disorders including obesity has everything to do with your self esteem and self love. With out the need to "feel" in control of something you are so far out of control with, these diseases would fail to exist

Hope that gives you some insight

Yes, it is a real disease. It's a mental disease that often has less to do with weight loss than with a sense of control.

And actually, you can be genetically predisposed to have anorexia. If your Mom has it, there is a much greater chance that you will have it. Eating disorders do run in families.

You really should do some research on the disease as it is extremely common today and many people are suffering from it. Most people with eating disorders do everything possible to keep others from noticing their problem, so I think you are wrong in thinking they want people to see them not eating.

If you are genuinely interested in learning about the disease, which again, is a very real disease, you might want to restate your question to be less judgmental and, quite frankly, belittling to those who suffer from the disease.

Trust me, Anorexia is a serious mental illness. Normal people don't just decide to become Anorexic, these people have are prone to developing body image disorders and obsessive compulsive disorder, which means it is often hereditary. Sometimes they might just start off dieting and it develops into Anorexia. No-one wants to be mentally ill and people that say it's a lifestyle choice are just kidding themselves.

I hope this makes sense.

Take care : )

Anorexia is a disease, but not the vomiting part of it. It is because of an unhealthy self-image. It makes people think that they are not right and they can actually see themselves as fat and unappealing. It can be cured, but it takes a long time and a lot of patience. It helps to have people that care around you. It is definitely not something to be made fun of.

I am not a Dr. or Psychologist and this is just my personal opinion.

I don't believe Anorexia is a disease, I think it is a form of an O.C.D. obsessive compulsive disorder. It is in the same family as phobia.
There is nothing cool about damaging your body by not eating. If you are contemplating this STOP!!!. Be happy with who you are and how you look. Please see the link below.

Anorexia is a disorder. The DSM IV stipulates the clinical criteria for clinicians to make the determination (NOS not otherwised defined). There are ICD-9 codes for the disorder.

(I work at a hospital where I use both these manuals)

it's a disease becase it's an obsession that takes over your mind and can actually kill you.

yes, losing weight is great but when it becomes an obsession and you end up in an UNHEALTHY weight, it's not so "cool".

if anorexia was just wanting to lose weight, and then once the weight is lost that would be the end of it, it wouldn't be a disease.
but that's not what it is.
so that's why it is a disease.
a mental disease.

its a disease because it can kill you. it takes over ur mind, so you only care about losing weight and you become OBSESSED. trust me, it is the total opposite of cool, how could u say that? those people arent happy! they are miserable. people who r skinny because they eat healthy and exercise are happy. wow......i thought it was obvious...

it's more like a mental disease than a physical one even though you're harming your physical body it's the mind that's off and yes it's a bad thing
