when i'm around other people at work or school, i feel like they're all judging me. so, i usually keep my distance because i don't want them to judge me. i also watch what i say because i'm afraid they will use the words i say to go against me. or sometimes, when i see these people talking in groups, i feel like they're talking badly of me. at work, i feel like no one will ever promote me. at school, i feel like my fellow classmates are trying to bring me down. i also have anxiety when i'm alone at home, thinking about why i'm feeling the way i feel towards my peers. and i end up becoming grouchy and my family has to deal with it, so it affects them too. it affects my appetite and my sleep as well. sometimes, all i do is obsess on these thoughts. does this make sense to anyone of you? why do i feel this way? what could this be? a mental disorder?

It is really easy to classify people. People love to pigeonhole themselves to qualify bad behaviour. Look into yourself positively instead. Try focusing on what you aern't scared of. Try taking responsibility for how this affects your family. Stop wallowing and become a person YOU are proud of. Sure the problem maybe a clininical one and therefore only a doctor can help you. You have to remember with anxiety disorders which this could be...you are not the centre of everyones world. Sure people judge other people thats human. Your obsession with what they may be saying may be making you unhealthy body and mind. Your feelings are yours and not everyone else's fault. Seek help and smile more often.

I'm still a psych student, but according to my textbook, those symptoms match up with a generalized anxiety disorder or a social paranoia disorder. Chances are, you don't have either, considering only 5% of people develop GAD in their livetimes, and 3% of people develop a social paranoia disorder. If it bothers you, though, I'd check in with a therapist. I can't diagnose you via the internet (or at all), but a professional could. Most towns have free or inexpensive mental health care- I'd stop in for a visit if I were you! Both disorders can be treated very successfully. Good luck!

Edit- Don't pay attention to the person who suggested schizophrenia. What you're going through is normal. Everyone feels that way sometimes. If you were a paranoid schizophrenic, you'd be thinking things along the lines of "The mailman and the ups guy are in league to kill me. They belong to a secret orginization thats designed to take over the world, and I know their secret." See the difference? You're symptoms aren't even close to that. Don't worry about it.

It can be many things not necessarily one thing. It could be social anxiety and stress. thinking about the problem will only make it worse as will ignoring it. you should talk to someone, its the only way it will get better. you need to have the courage to step up and help yourself. i have been in an all to similar situation and it was the best thing for me to seek help. you need to not be concerned with being labeled. "mental disorders" aren't necessarily disorders but can just be temporary till things get back on track. The best way to do that is not to be worried with being "labeled" because you wont be...you'll be one step closer to being yourself and if you are anything like the way i was, yourself is a person you haven't seen in a while. So get out there. You need to let someone know you are feeling like this so you can do something about it. Your school should have a guidance department which could help you find the help you are truly looking for. The first step to getting help is asking for it. Take care and feel free to ask for anymore advice...I know what you are going through.

Schizophrenia - paranoid type (1 image) (Doctor-Reviewed information)
In this type of schizophrenia, the individual has feelings of being persecuted or plotted against. Affected individuals may have grandiose (over-the-top) delusions associated with protecting themselves from the perceived plot. The key symptoms are delusions and auditory hallucinations. Paranoid schizophrenia usually does not involve the disorganized speech and behavior that is seen in other types of schizophrenia. Patients with paranoid schizophrenia typically are tense, suspicious, guarded, and reserved. The paranoia is a strong indicator of something beyond anxiety. Your age could have a factor, too. Many mental health disorders begin while in college and in the mid 20's. Maybe a call to a community mental health clinic or your school's counseling services (cheap or free) could get you in the right direction for resolving or naming this.

Yep! It's called Social Anxiety and depression!
You should see your Dr. and get some help. I have the same problem and have for quite some time. You can't get better if you don't ask for help. Don't feel stupid about it, do you really want to live the rest of your life this way if you don't have to?

Sounds like low self-esteem, low self-confidence, not believing in yourself. Those are more symptoms. Probably a form of depression.

It sounds like low self esteem. Maybe you don't think much of yourself, so it's difficult to conceive anyone else thinking highly of you. Think positive, get arrogent, if that's what it takes!
