Metformin is an oral medication sometimes used to control glucose levels associated with diabetes. In women with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), glucose intolerance is a common symptom and can be given Metformin to help control it. Metformin has also been found to increase ovulation in some women with PCOS. If you are not dealing with PCOS, then perhaps your doctor is using metformin to attempt to increase your ovulation. It would probably be best to ask your doctor directly as he/she will have the best knowledge of why you are receiving a particular medication and what it is used for. I have a 22 year old daughter recently dignosed with PCOS with elevated glucose levels who was just put on Metformin.

the drug is for type 2 diabetes but is used to treat polycystic ovaries. I know many women who have polycystic ovaries, its common.
Research has found that women with PCOS also tend to have a condition called insulin resistance, which means their bodies have trouble using the insulin they make to get energy from their cells. Insulin resistance often occurs before someone develops diabetes. To treat this insulin resistance, researchers had been prescribing a drug called metaformin. What they found was that metaformin not only reduced insulin resistance, but it also brought about changes to the uterine lining that could help women with PCOS get pregnant and reduce the risk of miscarriage during their first trimester (the first three months) of pregnancy.

If I recall what I read said 3 months on metaformin and 3 month on another drug-for getting pregnant and reducing chance of miscarraige-we all wish we knew when we could get pregnant-its not so simple. I wish you the best of luck and don't forget to try other ideas like a ceremony or some spiritual ideas too. I hope it all goes well.
