Many recipies recommend grilling boneless chicken breasts and hamburgers over a direct-medium fire, and chicken pieces with bones (or whole chickens) over an indirect fire (with a drip pan directly under the meat).
Chicken pieces with the bone in can take 30-45 minutes over indirect heat, and the temperature of a charcoal fire begins to fade in 45 minutes to an hour. So if you're doing bone-in chicken pieces and burgers you may want to add more coals before the chicken comes off the grill and then spread the coals (once the new coals are hot) into a direct fire for grilling the burgers (put foil over the chicken to keep it warm - it will continue to cook slightly).
An alternative is to do boneless chicken breasts with the burgers, which have similar grilling times and both of which can be done on a direct-medium fire. Enter the thickness for the individual items to be grilled and the various doneness you want (for the burgers, if necessary) and it will give you instructions for how to grill the burgers and boneless chicken breast so that they all come off the grill at the same time, cooked to your specifications. i would try hamburgers 1st, but if that doesnt work then you could stop the grill and start in again for the chicken a few minutes later. It works for me.

I cook them at the same time. Chicken on one side of the grill, burgers on the other.

if you are grilling chicken, try cooking in the microwave first for about 5 minutes, that way it will be cooked and only need browing on the grill

you may want to, while your chicken is coming to an end in cooking, start heating up some coal in your 'chimney' then add the heated coals to your pit and then begin grilling. those chimney's are so cool !

Chicken is best cooked first due to the fact that chicken needs to be cooked thoroughly and beef can be cooked to your desired temperature( med or med. well or rare ) all your choice.
