You know, Satan was a glorious angel.
But greed got him. He wanted humans to worship him instead of God.
Isa 14:12 How art thou fallen from heaven, Lucifer, son of the morning! Thou art cut down to the ground, that didst prostrate the nations!
Isa 14:13 And thou that didst say in thy heart, I will ascend into the heavens, I will exalt my throne above the stars of *God, and I will sit upon the mount of assembly, in the recesses of the north;
Isa 14:14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High:
Isa 14:15 none the less art thou brought down to Sheol, to the recesses of the pit.
Notice that Satan owns the world in the following verse. He offers the kingdoms of world for an act of worship from Jesus.
Mat 4:8 Again, the devil taketh him unto an exceeding high mountain, and showeth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;
Mat 4:9 and he said unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.
Some of the demons fathered the Nephlim.
Gen 6:2 the sons of God saw that the daughters of man were attractive. And they took as their wives any they chose.
Gen 6:3 Then the LORD said, "My Spirit shall not abide in man forever, for he is flesh: his days shall be 120 years."
Gen 6:4 The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of man and they bore children to them. These were the mighty men who were of old, the men of renown.

Well Satan was an angel at first also, so when they followed him out of Heaven, they became like Satan, a demon. Satan left Heaven because he wanted to take over and God wouldn't allow that of course, so he and 1/3 of the angels were cast into Hell.http://home.att.net/~warplover/02_the_fall_of_lucifer_and_the_angels.html

They have intellect and free-will just as humans. Lucifer decided he will not serve and was ejected from Heaven. The rest is history.

Angels have a limited free-will.
They are not legally (spiritually) able to choose their own words.
