The cold sore is caused by the Herpes Simplex Virus. It is a latent virus that comes out during times of stress or immune system compromisation. OVer 80% of the US population has the virus.
The best treatment is an over the counter medication, if sever, then see your doctor about it and get a prescription. Do NOT pick, poke or pinch the cold sore, this will only make it hurt worse or possibly spread it. ALWAYS wash your hands after touching it. While the sore is present and visible, avoid kissing and giving oral sex, this will cause the virus to be transmitted to teh other person.
Abreva and Lycine+ seem to work for me.

Well, you need to attack the cold sore i will tell you what always work for me just when you feel that there is coming .
1- I will take the water out with a cotton swab and peroxide water let the cold sore turn in to foam do this 3 or 4 times .
2- Do the same thing, this time use cotton and Listerine this way you are killing the germs, the small hurt is a good hurt when you are doing this trust me .
3- get some Clearasil and put some of the staff around .(TOOTHPASTE) woks excellent b4 you go to bed.
This will dry the cold sore. You can use the one that is skin color better because this will help to look like your on skin.on the day time for work.
IMPORTANT : Wash always your hands and do not touch any parts from you body if you touch your cold sore.
I hope this will help you.

I got identified with herpes simplex virus (type 2) about three yrs ago, whilst I was still in college and had a stupid one-night stand. I understand loads of girls say this, but I swear I had never done that sort of thing before. I just made a mistake that one time and all of a sudden I felt like I was going to have to live with the implications for the rest of my life. The worst part was feeling I could never date men again. After all, who wants to go out with someone who has sores round her private parts? But since a friend shared this video https://tr.im/Hrdsr everything got better.
Not only was I able to eliminate all traces of the herpes virus from my system in less than 21 days, but I was also able to start dating again. I even met the guy of my dreams and I'm so lucky to write that just a week ago, in front of everybody in a crowded restaurant, he got down on one knee and proposed to me! This system provided me the opportunity to be happy and experience real love again. Now I want to help others too by sharing this story.

"Cold sores generally clear up without treatment. In the meantime, the following steps may provide relief:
* Use creams. Over-the-counter (OTC) creams can provide comfort, but don't expect them to speed healing.
* Take an OTC pain reliever. These include aspirin, acetaminophen (Tylenol, others) and ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, others). But don't give aspirin to children. Aspirin may trigger a rare but potentially fatal disorder known as Reye's syndrome.
* Use cold or heat. Try applying ice or warm compresses to the blisters to ease the pain.
* Let it heal. Avoid squeezing, pinching or picking at any blisters

I had cold soars all through out my childhood and teen years.
Blistex works fine to dry them up, but you should go to the drug store and buy some Lysine. Lysine is an amino acid that your body is lacking so you are having a hard time fighting off the virus that causes cold soars.

Good luck
