I've tried twice to post this question. Exodus 21:7-11 says "If a man sells his daughter as a servant, she is not to go free as menservants do. 8 If she does not please the master who has selected her for himself, he must let her be redeemed. He has no right to sell her to foreigners, because he has broken faith with her. 9 If he selects her for his son, he must grant her the rights of a daughter. 10 If he marries another woman, he must not deprive the first one of her food, clothing and marital rights. 11 If he does not provide her with these three things, she is to go free, without any payment of money.
It is clear form the passage that God has no issue with selling your daughter into sex slavery as long as her master follows the rules. Funny. God's got room to explain how to sacrifice animals, avoid shellfish and pimp your children, so you'd think he could explain contour farming, crop rotation, maybe even how to boil water to kill the Guinea Worm. Not that "loving" a God.

See the Light - Read the Bible
This passage is God speaking and setting forth rules. It is not a statement of facts. It is God speaking through his prophet Moses according to the traditionalists.

Wow. It's clear Christians aren't even going to respond to the existence of this passage let alone what it says about their Israelite god.

The Christians here continue to demonstrate selective observation, not even seein portions of the passage that conflict with their ideals. God doesn't say anywhere: "Gathers shall not sell their daughters." He sets forth rules of sale. For cryin out loud how blind can you people be????

Christian 35 - Use you mind! If God is the author of scripture He is free to set forth the moral code of which he approves. Your sophistry amounts to saying your God's morality is bounded by the tribal customs of the day. This is gtrue is scripture is simply the work of a man. If it is the work of a God he would have said "Fathers shall not sell their children into slavery for any cause!" But he doesn't. Your Loving God considers the sale of people just another form of commerce, and you can't even grasp the immorality of it because it's in your Bible. If it ws in the Q'uran I know full well you'd immediately grasp the immorality of selling your children.

Sheymayramble- Your ability to perform isogesis, i.e to read into the text what is not there, is remarkable. Not as remarkable as you ability to excuse the selling of one's own children into slavery, or that God not only countenance's this, but gives instruction on how it is to be done. You missed that part altogether as have most of the Christians posting here. I think it's a shame that you have such a huge moral blind spot that it never even occurs to you "God is not forbidding peple to sell their daughters. Would a moral God really allow that?" Instead of seeing the immorality of the human author before you, you twist and turn to avoid the plain meaning and cling to the notion that God is speaking. Now I am just disgusted. There's gullible and brainwashed, and then there's a point where culpability for one's own ignorance accrues. If this doesn't demonstrate the mythical nature of "Christian Morality" I don't know what would.

Scott F - That your mythical god hasn't struck me dead for blasphemy is as a great a frustration for you as your inability to correctly use the noun form "blasphemy" versus the verb form "blaspheme" is an amusement for me. I understand. It is a frustration to me that there isn't a god who strikes people dead for not using their brains and continuing to live in their mother's basements, but there it is.

Jim K, it should ne noted that in the full context of the passage it is impossible to avoid the clear meaning that the owner is having "marital relations" with the slave girl. Apparently Christians like yourself understand all kinds of things except integrity and honesty in approaching the scripture and challenges to it.

It's always hilarious to see how people try to defend this. They say "God's not condoning it, he's just saying how they should behave IF THEY DO THAT."
Well then, why the hell doesn't this supreme, all-loving being just say "Hey, don't sell your daughter into sex slavery!" The bible is full of absolutely ridiculous, inhumane things like this. Just one of many many reasons why I left Christianity.

You didn't read the chapter in it's entirety, or you don't care to know the truth.
Back in that time, people would settle their debts by becoming slaves or selling their children into slavery, among other desperate ways. "Slaves" or servants, as they are more apply titled then, were treated a heck of a lot better than slaves of today. They were treated as precious because they did the work and the undesirable jobs. People did not go about beating their slaves (unless they happened to steal or kill!), it was pretty much unheard of.
This passage is talking about if you have a female servant, she cannot be set free until she is married because back then the men provided and sending a girl off to live in the wilderness was foolish. Someone could have their way with her and back then (and hopefully today) purity was precious. The passage says, if the master's son does not wish to marry her for her well being and instead marries another woman, he must still treat her with respect and dignity by clothing and feeding her like his CHILD. And then in turn find her a husband. If he cannot or will not provide her these things, she is to be set entirely free without any payment.
This passage has nothing to do with sex, so EEEEN wrong. Thanks for trying to "tear" down Judaism and Christianity with your foolish attempts. They have not worked and will never work. You absolutely refuse to read the book, instead take little pieces out and rewrite them to your fancy. Sicko.

Question for you....... Who crucified Jesus?
Answer.........The Pharisies were the true people behind sending Jesus to the cross.
Now that , that is established you have to ask yourself why would these law abiding believers kill the son of God?
These Parisies knew the Old Testment inside and out and would take pride at how well they were versed in God's word. Well, Jesus came and suddenly he pointed out that some of there practices were wrong, that they were taking things to literally (they once accused Jesus for sinning on the Sabbath by performing a miracle) even though they believed they were following the word of God. He -challenged them to re-think some of there Old School teaching thus the existance of the New Testment.
Christians truly follow the ways and teachings of Jesus and know not to take every single word so literraly. It's not about the words, when you come to know God, He proves to each of us individually that he exists, that is why the Christian faith has survived for thousands of years!
It also should be noted that YOU are the one that added the word 'Sex' and not The Old Testment or God.

hi there those where laws given by god in the beginning as you read chapter 20 : v 24 where god wants offering such animals as sheep's cattle's but you do not see us do that today why? cause Jesus took the place of offering in the cross so their was and is still no need to offering animals. those where the laws of living in chapter 21 all that was change cause Jesus die on that cross for us all. we keep his commandments.. god's laws - psalm 119: 12 -24 Matthew:17-19
Luke 16:16-17 1john 3:19-24 their where slaves in those days not today well not in united states maybe where strong laws do not apply or people do it against the laws. it was rules to slaves & owners masters and if you read on v 2 you see that it reads IF YOU BUY A HEBREW SLAVE then it goes on with the laws for living. god change all that .

Where does the implication of sex? Were all slaves of black people only slaves for sex or did they work for the plantation owners? People had a way of abusing people and God put rules to govern the fair treatment of them. If a son was to take favor of a servant then he could elect to marry her. Slavery was part of the culture in those days for repayment of debts. People were also betrothed in those days. If you saw who your parents hooked you up with and decided to bolt then God had rules to take care of the proposed spouse. Sounds like a loving God.

It is NOT "clear" from the passage that God has no issue with selling your daughter; where does it say "A man should sell his daughter"? It doesn't.
The point of this passage isn't condoning the sale of a daughter, it's about how people are supposed to act when they're already in that situation - if you had a slave, you were supposed to treat her with dignity and respect and provide for her. You missed the point of the verse entirely.

You seem to agree that this passage is true...which it is...which would make me assume that you have read the entire Bible and agree that it is all true.
If that is the case, then you know it is all true and that Jesus was willing to come to this earth and die for you...proof enough of how loving He is.
By the way...one more way you can know He is a loving God. He hasn't struck you dead for your complete blaspheme. You need to find a new hobby other than looking to offend Him and His people.
