Tobacco is, for one thing, legal. But it is just a plant that you inhale. It may make some people a little bit more calm but overall does not produce very many phycological effects.
Marijuana is a plant that contains THC which would get you high. It alters your state of consciousness and makes you gitty and happy. You basically just get high.
I hope this helps.

Marijuana distorts your perceptions. The main active chemical in marijuana is THC (delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol). The membranes of certain nerve cells in the brain contain protein receptors that bind to THC. Once securely in place, THC kicks off a series of cellular reactions that ultimately lead to the high that users experience when they smoke marijuana. Smoking marijuana causes short term damage and some long term damage depending on how long and how much you use. The damage is to the brain, lungs, and heart. Marijuana is almost always laced with another drug to intensify the effect. The problem is that you do not know what that other drug is. Or whether the drug your marijuana is laced with is a drug made from household cleaners and can cause permanent damage to the area of your brain that deals with emotions, judgement, and knowledge.
After the first puff on a new cigarette, nicotine is in the brain within 7 seconds. So the effect of a new dose of nicotine is quickly noticeable. This way the nicotine causes physical dependence. The body wants to get the new substance over and over again. But smoking also shares all the effects on the body of other addictive drugs. When a smoker feels the need to smoke and feels uncomfortable, the reason is that the level of nicotine in the body has been reduced below some value. Smoking causes your brain and body to become dependent on it. Cigarettes are laced with many different chemicals from the tobacco companies. Chewing tobacco has formaldahyde in it, the same chemical used to preserve dead bodies.

Marijuana is a carcinogen like tobacco. It is often smoked without a filter in a pipe or in a rolled cigarette and inhaled in the lungs for a longer period of time thus making its carcinogenic qualities more harmful than tobacco if it were smoked the same way with the same frequency.

Tobacco has harmful stuff like niccotine and tar.
Marijuana has a psychoactive ingredient called THC (tetra-hydra cannibinol) that gets you "high". The jury is still out on how harmful weed actually is for you, but I believe it to be one of the safest illicit drugs.

the differences are huge. do not experiment with either. and if you know friends who tend to smoke the reefer, grass... or if they puff the magic dragon, and no "puff" is not the name of the little boys magical dragon, then make sure you dont become one of those people who do. it tends only to make friends with anyone who smokes up ... in other words ... if you werent to smoke they wouldnt hang out with you... now what kind of friends are they? dont get involved with that crowd
