...because i am in a speech class and she when we go over in a speech takes off 3 points per 15 seconds over. is this too strict in your opinion?

another question; if you were a teacher in this class, how would you take care of this sort of thing? how many points per seconds/minutes for going over?

the more that are involved in this question, the better. thanks for your participation!

i'm in a speech and public debate class as well. and my teacher would never go that far.. if anything hed add on points if we were to go over in a speech, usually to take the easy way around the kids in my class cut the speech short .. i guess it depends on the school and the expectations they have for you. personally i think that your teachers policy is very very strict and to add to that meaningless, in the future i want to be a teacher and id be encourageing my students to feel comfortable up on that podium instead of worrying about how many seconds you have left over in your long well prepared speech. the advice id give to you is you write up a speech about her policy and why you feel it is wrong and to make it even better go over a minute or two to reallly get the point across!

Kind of, maybe if she were a little more laid back as to how much you're over would be a good solution. Although, if this speech is only a minute or two long, then three points per 15 seconds is not harsh enough. Rehearse your speeches and you'll do fine.

I don't think so.
The time limit is there for a reason. She is teaching you to rehearse your speech and make it more concise.
My speech teacher in high school counted 10 points off if you were under the time limit.

I think it's a good practice, because it forces you to practice your speech to time it. Many people write them without practicing and never time themselves.

It's good practice to know your stuff before you get in front of an audience!

NO, that is why you should rehearse your speech a couple of times prior to your speech.

No, practice before and make sure the time is exactly right.
