I have very little information about Scotland. Where is the best place to live and find work. I would be coming alone, if in time this is my decision to leave the United States. I will be starting life anew. So any information that would assist me would be appreciated.

I would recommend Edinburgh over Glasgow but I know it better. Not only the history and the culture but there is also a good night life. Cost is an issue as it is expensive to live in either Edinburgh or Glasgow but there are some really nice suburbs around Edinburgh at least.
As with every capital city there are nice areas and not so nice areas. It would depend on your work as well as your life style what city is best for you to live in. East coast (Edinburgh) accents are probably easier to understand - not quite as pronounced IMO.
It depends also on what you are used to in the states, If you are from Florida you will have to adjust to the cold weather but it you are from Minnesota then it will be no problem...
Do research on line and see what city suits you and your life style and budget the best. I whole heartedly recommend Edinburgh - the castle in the city centre and the hundreds of festival activities that happen throughout the year make living there constantly interesting.

Scotland is great, so I would definately recommend moving here!
It depends what kind of place you want to live really.
If you like big cities, then Edinburgh or Glasgow would be best (I prefer Edinburgh, its more beautiful, but I think there is better night life in Glasgow).
Small cities/towns perhaps St Andrews, Stirling or somewhere like that.
If you want countryside and to be a bit further from the busiest areas then the west coast is beautiful.
People are generally pretty friendly in Scotland - far friendlier than for example in the South of England!
The best places to find work (depending on what type of work you do) would be Glasgow or Edinburgh - so if finding a good job is the priority there is very little in smaller towns/cities or in the countryside.

depends how old you are, what you're into... if you are young glasgow is the best place ever. great clubs, galleries, music scene, shops..etc. edinburgh's ok but it's very expensive to live there and the people are different. in glasgow, and generally the whole of the west coast, people are friendlier and much more welcoming. edinburgh is a bit... english :) if you fancy country living i would have to say the highlands, although i am biased. where i'm originally from in fort william it's pretty spectacular but i'd recommend a smaller village around that area. possibly more west coast. the music's great, the scenery is great and the people are pretty crazy. mostly in a good way.
the thing is though scotland is a very small place. even if you live in glasgow it's a maximum of 3 hours away from anywhere else of interest.

I won't lie and say we don't have the same problems as any large city but the pros vastly outweigh the cons.

I moved to Scotland 5 years ago, and although I like it, I am looking forward moving somewhere else. Its mainly the weather, fairly gray, but also the Friday night street population. A lot of violence, vomiting and drunken oddly shaped girls in bizarre mini skirts flashing their boobies at anyone who remotely looks male. I saw one girl on a hen night randomly making out with a homeless guy who she saw sitting on a street corner. Mind you, that made the guy's day. Oh, I live in Glasgow, I guess Edinburgh is more civilised but I wouldn't trade it. Glasgow still rocks. Somehow.... Don't go anywhere else!

Edinburgh or Glasgow as far as getting a job, although Aberdeen is good for work in certain sectors. I'm biassed towards Edinburgh as I lived there for several years, fantastic nightlife, beautiful city, but as with any city it has its slum areas.

Be prepared for the cold, I visited Aberdeen at Easter time many years ago and have never been back, I just could not enjoyit as it was so cold.
