My last question asking if you would teach other religions and faith to give your child an understanding got answers like-

"Why teach your child wrong stuff? If 1+1 = 2, why should I teach him otherwise?"

Or comparing teaching other faiths as poisoning your child with rat poison.

I'm just curious on what your justification is of this? You see, I'm an open minded person (believe it or not). If my kids decide to want to believe in Christianity after I teach them of it I'll won't mind one bit. If they want to follow buddist ways then more power to them.

Why such hypocritical statements against other religions when your own is just like the rest?

"I contend that we are both atheists. I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours."

I suppose you are right Kallan, I just can't stand how people can dismiss so many other beliefs the way they do but then preach about theirs.

Eh, so annoying

No one will be dismissing Jesus when he comes in the clouds. We all have a right to believe what we want to. I just personally believe that Jesus is the only way to Heaven and will raise my child to believe the same. He has touched my heart and my life and I am sure that Buddha can't do the same thing.

I have been called many things.
Christians have called me "The whore of Babylon", "Jezebel" "cursed", and (I love this one) a "tare", to name a few, because I let my grandkids watch Harry Potter, I am open to discussion about Wicca, whether or not there could be real vampires, or whatever else the kid might have on his mind, and because I think charismatic Christianity is a farce.
Atheists have called me "bitchy" "sarcastic" and "bigoted", and those are some of the nice names, because, well, atheists just seem to be a rather angry lot, and sometimes I don't blame them for that anger...although sometimes I do wish they could get it through their heads that because that Christian does something they didn't like doesn't mean all Christians are guilty.
That's cool.
When it comes to my kids, I really could care less what anyone thinks. I will teach them what I believe is true. Live with it.
As I have said before, I have lived through seven teenagers, the insane clown posse, Ivan and Katrina....my "shock level" is probably higher than most folks.

I assume that if/when you have kids of your own, you (will) feel the same way.

I completely agree with you. Children should indeed be taught that there are many belief systems and allowed to seek the one they are most comfortable with.

Those who claim to have the only 'truth' are simply fooling themselves and doing their children a disservice.

In my religion, the study of other beliefs is the 8th grade Sunday school curriculum.

Chill out, it is not that serious.

Unfortunately, unless I homeshool my child, they will be exposed to MANY other things. Religion is small compared to teen sex, drugs, Adult Swim, video games.. the list is endless. Trying to keep your child holy in an unholy world. My job as a Christian mother, is to train my child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart.. As for me and my entire house we will serve the Lord and Him only will we serve. A child has no democracy until it can support itself.

I will not disown my child if it chooses to follow a different religion as mines, but I won't support it either.

Hope this helps. Peace and Blessings :)

But you also got answers that said that we do teach our children about other religions and that some have been taught by their parents that way.
It was a pretty accurate representation of how people raise their kids.
You didn't really think that you were going to get all answers that agreed with you, did you?

So, Mister Open-minded Pirate Dude....allow me to ask this:

When you brought your kids home from the hospital, did you feed them? Seriously. Did you feed them? What did you feed them? The best and healthiest food, recommended by the doctors and the hospital?

Or...did you just let the baby decide? And, when they got older...did you put out chocolate cake and Hershey Bars and M&M's along with the chicken and fish and broccoli and carrots? Did you say: "Here you go, dear, you just go ahead and choose - they're all equal"? Or did you offer guidance, as a good parent should?

Same exact concept goes for the spiritual life. I know what is best for my kids - and I want them to have the best.

If that's narrow-minded - then put me in that long line of narrow-minded folks.

Jesus said that "narrow is the way" that leads to eternal life."

I happen to agree with Him.

I would want my hypothetical children to learn about other religions, but I would not teach these religions as truth, the way I would teach them that Jesus Christ is the truth. There are lots of things that are kept from children in order to shield them, but most of the time it just ends up hurting them in the long run.

Good point!

I'm not just making this up at this precise moment, but ever since becoming a Baha'i, I vowed to teach my kids about the Baha'i Faith, Islam, Christianity, and all other religions that I may become learned in. Why? Because I want my kids to choose, because if they choose, they CARE.

Super fortunately for myself and my fiance, we both agree on this -- teach the kids, and let them choose when they are old enough to know what they're doing. If they choose Islam (fiance is a Muslim), I will give them my blessing. If they choose the Baha'i Faith, he will give them his blessing.

Whatever they choose, I want them to CARE and to KNOW THOROUGHLY what they're doing. I want them to become closer to God, period.

Religious people and non-religious people will still go to Hell if they don't repent and trust in the Creator.

No offense, but there are probably Baptist preachers in Hell, Buddhist monks and priests, Catholic priests, Nuns, "Holy men," Pagans, Muslim leaders, Christian pastors, etc. You name it.

There are different kinds of people in Hell, and most of them are religious.

How to be forgiven? Beg for it, don't demand it from the Lord. Religious people often make demands unto God, so instead of being forgiven, they get damned.

I hope this helps. Oh, and please read this previous post:

If you've never done any sin or anything wrong in your entire life, you will be with the Lord in heaven when you die.

But, if you have done even at least one sin, you deserve to be in Hell forever. Justice will be served.

Being a Christian does not guarantee forgiveness of sins. It is either the sinner pays for his sins or another person does.

The Lord Jesus Christ died ONLY for those who will trust in Him, and those who trusted in the Lord (including perhaps those who repent of their sins). Abraham was saved by faith, although he probably did not know about the Lord Jesus Christ yet.

Now. I command you in the name of the Lord, to repent and to trust completely in Him. It is either you pay for your own sins, or the Lord Jesus did.

You asked about those who do "good works." Actually, "good works" do not pay for sins. The payment for sins is suffering and death. Even the most evil kings also do "good works." Payment must be made. You cannot do "good works" if your sins have not yet been paid. Filthy rags need to be cleaned by water (no offense). The rag cannot clean itself.

What qualifies the Lord Jesus Christ as the substitute on the cross? He is the Son of God, and His value is infinitely higher than the whole universe itself. He can pay for the sins of as many as He wanted.

Atheists have no excuse. REPENT! Those who blaspheme against the name of the Lord is worse than a criminal. His name is more valuable than the universe itself.

Believers can only be in heaven because the Son of God paid for their sins, there is no other acceptable sacrifice.

Oh, and a "tribeman" who repents and trusts in the Creator will be in paradise, although he does not yet know about the Lord Jesus Christ. His faith will guide him.

The "tribeman" who repents is better than an atheist who refuses to be sorry.

What about adulterous Christians? Maybe they're only Christians but they're not saved. Or, maybe they think they have faith, but actually they don't. Those who trust in the Lord are very sorry of their sins.

An unrepentant Christian is a greater fool than an atheist or an infidel. Repent you foolish Christians!
