The Americans are very worried about the young men from Britain. Hopefully, they will release them. They have not commited a war crime. I truly feel that America will help and fight for the release of the men. Tony Blair is a wonderful man and with hope the Iran Leader will acknowledge that. British are our Friends and we have been Loyal to each other for years. If I was The Prime Minister, I would personally call the leader of Iran and ask for his Sailors to be free. I pray to God the Father, that the young men will be released. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you and your Country.

I think it's possible that those marines were duped into entering Iranian waters, I didn't think they were actually captured in Iraqi waters, but then reports probably vary.
It's not an act of war. The marines surrendered to the Iranians precisely because it is the present policy to avoid incidents that could lead to war, eg shooting at foreign ships whilst in their national waters. The next thing to happen is for Iran to release the hostages. They may bait the West a little first by putting the hostages on TV, but I don't think they'll torture them... could be wrong.
Well, if it was war, I think the US would help the UK, just because the US (talking government/army here, not necessarily 'man in the street') would quite like to bomb certain parts of Iran in the first place. It's not war though, not at this stage anyway... if it turns out Iran does torture the marines though, or refuses to hand them over, that'd be quite different.
If I was PM? Just about what's been done... apologise, but press Iran to give them back unharmed with all speed. Then again, if I was PM, there may well not be any British military in Iraqi waters to get into that situation.

The British government will most likely handle this the way the British handle everything. They will be patient and proper and extend every opportunity to the Iranians to act civilly and return the troops. If the Iranians are unwilling to cooperate, the Brits will most likely collect all necessary intelligence to send in a covert SAS force, who will recover the troops, and taking out anything that interferes with that objective. (The SAS is really good at that type of thing).
As far as being an act of war, I think it is more a way for the Iranians to see what type of thing they can do and still be tolerated. They want to be seen as a world power, and if things like this are accepted without consequence, they will feel they have achieved an objective.
As for us Americans, I believe that we understand what a hostage situation is like better than most countries. (remember the late seventies) Keep in mind that even the Carter negotiators said that, the biggest spur to negotiations was that Reagan wouldn't be sending diplomats, he'd be sending Marines. The imminent guarantee of force was the final deal maker.
As a whole I feel we would support our friends across the pond in any way we could. We have stood together in the face of much worse before.
As for being prime minister, I'm not sure, I'd be way to confused by the whole other side of the road thing to accomplish much.

Where is the famous British back bone? Is this the same island that held off the Germans single handedly for two years? In America, you Brits are famous for your courage in the face of impossible odds. You've been reduced to having your leader threaten Iran with an additional "Phase." WTF. TB didn't even bother to elaborate on said "phase," just that their would be one. I'm sure the Iranians are pissing in their pants from laughter. I admire you country's commitment to diplomacy, but it's not like your soldiers were captured by Canadians. The Iranian government has consistently proven themselves to be crazy at every step. Diplomacy does not work with crazy people. While you may not have a large military, you certainly have one of the best trained in the world and your not to shabby at covert operations either. If all else fails, America has a crazy a#s President who would just bomb the country back to the stone ages and a population who even they don't like him would certainly support him to help the British. GET YOUR SOLDIERS BACK!

Yes, it's an act of war.
No, I don't think anyone in your government has the balls to do anything about it.
Yes, America would support you, and not just because you supported us, but because it would be the right thing to do.
If I were Prime Minister, I'd sack the captain of the HMS Cornwall for not coming to the rescue of his sailors. Then I'd sack the admiral who wrote whatever gutless rules of engagement that the captain had been following when he abandoned his men.
Then I'd give the Iranians 24 hours to return all 15 of them. When those 24 hours pass (because you know the Iranians don't believe you have a hair on your collective pecker, and they'll think you're bluffing), I'd bomb Tehran, Ifsahan, and every other major Iranian population center until they beg for mercy, just like the Jerries did.
No one gets it anymore. You don't win decisively by precision bombing military targets. You win once and for all by killing people, as many as possible, until they don't want to fight you anymore. The Third World certainly knows this, and practices it fervently. I have no idea why we in the privileged world all seemed to have forgotten it. High ideals? Morality gets you nowhere with people who lack it.

This attack jogs my memory of the Islamists' attack on the yank embassy in Tehran in 1979. we live in an traditionally importnat era wherein finished areas are falling into the palms of religious extremists who espouse illiberal innovations and sanction violence against the West. in the begining i in my view theory the Arab Spring phenomenon replaced right into a good step for the region however the greater i learn it the greater i understand that truly dark forces are coming to skill. Egypt has already fallen to Muslim Brotherhood. Slowly in the subsequent 5-7 years greater coutires could have Islamic governments and ruling events. Saudi Arabia is likewise on the verge of falling into social unrest which will at last convey approximately factors, (Salafis and Wahabists), who're much greater extremist that the Brotherhood to come back to skill. And unwisely we've armed those 2 very key Arab international locations, (Egypt and Saudi Arabia), with state-of-the-paintings weaponry including F-16Ds!!!! additionally Jordan is slowly entering the social instability unrest. Unbeknownst to us in the West, the Jordanian monarchy is dealing with the real probability of crumple. The Hashemite kingdm is unquestionably very some distance from being the main solid and solid best pal. This particularly concerns me greater effective than something in the region. The media has been very gradual in reporting the growing to be unrest in Jordan. The extremist Hamas has a good help base in the Jordanian society!!! additionally, Turkey is leaning in the direction of a greater Islamic governance device, even nevertheless not as extremist as Muslim Brotherhood. i've got confidence in the subsequent 10-15 years, there will be a loose confederation of Arab international locations with the Muslim brotherhood and different Islamist political events in skill in each and each united states of america who've agreed to sort an european-like entity!

Just be cool and dont do anything stupid. If the 15 that were taken were american, Iran would be lying in ruins right now. Maybe we were in their waters but hopefully proper diplomacy will resolve it. But if all fails - send in the SAS/SBS. They'll kick down some doors and snap some necks - but let's hope it wont come to that.
Response to razor11 - i agree, we should get out, but at the same time they can take back all that we have and dont want - the door swings both ways.

How many operations do other countries and the British operate undercover in Iran that we don't know about.I would guess alot its this time that we finally got someone to leak it to the press. War,what kind of war do you mean?Like the one in Iraq.We are bound to not lose just bound to stay and try to clean up after the big wigs that we oust from power. It's going to be like another Iraq. Why can't we learn from our prior mistakes in the past and learn how to adapt to the situation unfolding in front of us.We can't even get Iraq right what makes you think we will know we are doing this time?

Were they in IRAQI waters or in Iranian waters? If the second is true then what is your opinion about this situation? What would you have demanded from your government if Iranian commandos were captured in Britain? The facts are not so clear, i think. If the second is true do you justify your government?

To all the dumb idiots who are saying "lets bomb Iran" you want your heads testing for brains. Do you not see the implications of such an action. More British troops killed, the Middle east exploding into violence against us. The only way to solve this matter is through diplomacy as we did 3 years ago. Every body accuses the Americans of being Gung Ho are asking our leaders to be the same. Don't assume that our Marines were not in Irans Territorial waters. It is quite easy to cross the demarcation line. We know from reports that these marines are well and not suffering, so let us wait and see what happens. We do not want another Iraq to cope with.
