You do not have to make your own food just go with a holistic food that uses human grade ingredients. Here are a few that are good: Solid Gold, Wellness, Canidae, Timberwolf Organics, Innova, and Artemis Fresh Mix, there are several more but these are really good foods. They may be a bit pricey initially but they come out cheaper because you feed less. These are 100% human grade dog food with NO corn, wheat, soy, grain fractions, fillers or by products – and naturally preserved.

The best thing you can do is research the different brands. Meat should be the first ingredient and the foods should NOT contain corn, wheat, soy, beef or by-products and it should also be made from human grade ingredients.

The dog foods affected were the kinds in cans or pouches. It was not the standard premium kibble foods. Those kinds of foods are high in calories and lead to a higher incidence of dental problems. Kibble is the best food for a dog. We've fed all the major brands and are on Pro-Plan now. There are many dog food recipes on the Internet. There is even some raw meat diet called BARK I believe.

There are many other foods out there that are infinately BETTER than the brands on the recall list. You can try Canidae, California Natural, Innova, Innova Evo, Merrick, Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul, Fromm's, Timberwolf, Blue Buffalo, Solid Gold, and so on.

If you're uncomfortable feeding your dog any packaged food you can try raw: http://members.shaw.ca/naturalpaws/rawdiet-dogs.htm

I understand your frustration. However just pick a brand that wasn't on the recall list if you would like. The only recalled foods was the wet food and unless there is a dietary reason or health reason (such as not teeth) you should always feed your animals dry food as it promotes a healthier animal. Wet food the animal eats too fast consuming too much. Wet food also does not clean the teeth like dry food does. Consider feeding your dog dry food if at all possible. This was a one time thing and although horrible and heartbreaking the amount of dogs on this food compared to the dogs affected by this food is very minimal.

It's time to stop trusting the well being of your pet to just anyone who makes a pet food. If you are feeding commercially prepared pet foods, you need to listen closely.

Did you know that the FDA does not regulate the pet food industry?
Did you also know that most commercial pet foods are made from less than human quality ingredients.
Did you know that most pet foods bought in the store have been sitting around for as long as 18 months before you buy it?
Did you know that dogs and cats have the genetic potential to live 20 - 25 years but we are robbing those years from their lives with cheap pet foods.
Here are just a few of the procedures that we follow to provide your pet with a safe and nutritious product.

All the products are manufactured in a USDA facility.
All of our ingredients are individually inspected for human quality and carry the APHIS certification (a European standard for human quality ingredients)
Every vendor must supply an 'assurance statement' with each shipment. This statement must provide nutritional quality of ingredient provided AND must state it is free from any mold, bacteria, and so forth.
Dr. Jane has the ingredients tested AGAIN before manufacturing to make sure the quality is as stated AND it meets her standards
The product is tested 3 times during the manufacturing process - to again assure everything is 'as it should be'.
The product is tested again after manufacturing and again when it arrives at the warehouse.
One bag of food is kept at the warehouse - from each batch - to test in case a Customer has a problem or concern with the product. Each 'one bag' from each batch is kept for 1 full year.
The products are shipped directly from HealthyPetNet's warehouse to the Customer - no middleman warehousing (concerns of proper storage and pest control).
Can you say all of that about your current brand of pet food? Probably not. As I stated earlier, this is not a shameless attempt to capitalize on a tragedy, it is vital information that can save pets lives.

Don't let your pet be another statistic. Please give our products a try today. Don't wait! For your protection, we are not sold in stores, you must purchase online for fresh and safe home delivery http://www.HealthyPetFoodBiz.com

Homemade dogfood:
Instructions
STEP 1: Know that it is wise to check with your vet before switching to homemade dog food.
STEP 2: Understand that dogs need a diet that consists of 40 percent meat, 30 percent vegetables and 30 percent starch. Follow this formula to ensure that your dog has a well-balanced diet.

STEP 3: Cook meat before feeding it to your dog.
STEP 4: Realize that organ meat (such as liver, kidneys, etc.) and eggs are very good for your dog.
STEP 5: Consider the fact that many experts believe commercial dog food is actually unhealthy for dogs. Often the meat that is used in dog food is of a quality considered unfit for humans.
STEP 6: Try making a mixture of ground turkey, rice and carrot for your own dog food. Meals made of ground beef, brown rice, brewer's yeast and carrots are also popular.

STEP 7: Rotate the foods you feed your dog so that the dog gets a variety of foods.
STEP 8: Add garlic to your dog food. Dogs enjoy the flavor and garlic is a natural flea repellent.
STEP 9: Use oatmeal, pasta, rice or potatoes for your dog's starch requirement.
STEP 10: Grind eggshells and add this to your dog's meal. Eggshells have a lot of nutrients.
STEP 11: Keep cooked dog food in the refrigerator no longer than three days.
Tips & Warnings:
When you first switch to homemade dog food, try mixing commercial dog food to the food you have prepared to help your dog make the transition.
And of course, do not feed your dog chocolate.

P.S. Here is a good recipe for doggie biscuits or can be given as dry dog food:

Dog Biscuits
1 pound boiled liver or cooked steak or roast beef or ( hamburger- cooked and drained well) This is a good way to use up leftovers.
You can also substitute chicken or tuna or salmon if you are careful to avoid including any bones.

1 or 2 eggs with shells

about 1/2 cup of whatever leftover veges you find, such as cooked broccoli, carrots, celery, etc.

1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour (white flour will work too, but whole wheat is better for your pet-sometimes I mix them.)

1 cup cornmeal

1/2 tsp. garlic powder

1 tsp. brewers yeast (optional)

3 tablespoons olive or cooking oil

Mix the dry ingredients together and set aside Place meat, eggs and veggies in a food processer and blend well. Stir in the dry ingredients to make a dough and roll to 1/4 inch thick. For doggie biscuits cut into dog bone shapes or just small chunks for dogfood.
Bake at 325 degrees for 25 minutes. After you get the hang of these you will become inventive and adjust the ingredients for your dogs taste, like add a tad of honey or a little broth and adjust the dry ingredients accordingly.

Store in the refrigerator

Cheers
