I agree. I ask questions sometimes, and I get something random like, "Thanks for the two points!" and stuff. Anyone who does that, please stop!

I agree that people can be jerks. I asked a question on the dog site about a new dog I had just gotten that was underweight because of giving birth recently. I was asked why I had gotten such an unhealthy looking dog. Forget the fact that she was a new momma, She didn't look unhealthy, just skinny and I knew that would change fairly quickly. I also asked a question on the kids site about my son having issues on the school bus. Almost everyone who answered assumed that I was letting my son misbehave and then blame other kids. This was not true in the least. I think people can be jerks because it makes them feel "bigger" than everyone else. They are no different than the bullies that are bothering my son on the bus. But because this is anonymous, they have no accountability. Sometimes its hard, but I just try to ignore the jerky answers and study the knowledgeble ones. I know you just used the breeding question for an example, but just because people asked that question doen not make them a puppymill. It never fails that when you've studied and researched and prepared that something unexpected happens. Unfortunately when people read certain questions, a lot of times they quickily come to the wrong conclusions.

That is a great question. I do think I am better then most people when it comes to some things that pertain to dogs. I am not a breeder so I know nothing about breeding other then what I have read on and heard/seen from breeders, so I leave that subject alone. I am not a humaniac so I do not advocate fixing all dogs, I have never fixed any of mine and I have never had an accidental breeding. I have, however, spent the last 27 years training dogs in the field of police work, personal protection type, dtection of narcotics and explosives and dog sports that involve more then just looking good. I have also deployed with my dogs in some parts of the globe that make hell look good. So, when it comes to training a dog, I am the authority on that subject. Please, understand that I am not talking about housebreaking here, I am talking about real world training. Now, when I see most of these questions posted here I shake my head in amazement as to how someone can even ask a question like that. Example: "how do I stop my dog from pooping ON the dining room table"? Are you serious? Then you look at the answers provided by some of the morons here who think that a dog can do no wrong and you go "NO, people cannot be that ignorant" Lets face it, people come here to have their opinions or prejudicies validated, not looking for real answers. They do not like the REAL answers they would get from people who spent decades breeding or training or whatever and have learned to tell the difference between a real dog and a mutt, a real way of training and crap that should have been buried a long time a go. I can go on and on, but I am sure you get the point. Sorry about the long diatribe, but, this happens to be one of my pet peeves.

Yes, some answers can be the cold hearted ugly truth, and some people get offended by it.
Then you have people that consider themselves educated enough to give advice when they themselves have little to no experience in the matter at hand.
I must agree with some of the posts regarding learn before you leap. If they are not knowledgebale in the particular breed enough to know the health risks that afflict their breed and should be tested for, have no idea why there dog is getting fat or how she could have possibly gotten pregnant, or the when will I know when she's ready to have pups. If they did the homework, recorded the breeding and know the gestation period (all stuff one should KNOW before considering breeding) they wouldn't get such irrate answers.
BYB's and Puppymills pumping out pups all year long for the all mighty $.....with no regard to their own dog or what will ever become of the pups.
So yes, stupid question will get some pretty ugly responses.

I do not think I am better then anyone but I do think you should have general knowledge on things before you attempt them, such as breeding. Everyone has a right to answer any question they want and everyone has a different opinion and IMO that is the chance you take when you ask questions on an open forum. The nice thing is since you have so many answers to choose from (even if some are bad or mean answers) you can take the answers you want and leave the rest.
Th problem lies in the fact that people really do not want to hear the truth they just want someone to give advice on things they shouldn't be doing in the first place and in case you did not know YA is not a good place to research breeding or to get health advice because too many people have no idea what they are talking about and if the questioner doesn't know the answer either how do they pick the right thing to do for their animal.

Breeding and whelping questions are going to get dissected and criticized here because there are a lot of people who truly love dogs. I gave up a desk job and health benefits to be in business for myself, work 24/7 with no benefits because what I do helps people have and keep dogs.
Anybody who has to ask here, instead of their veterinarian, how to cut an umbilical cord is too ignorant of the process to be involved in breeding puppies. Real breeders ask those questions ahead of time.
I guess the point it, it has nothing to do with self esteem, but knowing the welfare of dogs in on the line. It isn't about ego, but about knowing what the heck you are doing BEFORE you do it.
And the people that jump on the "Stupid Breeding Questions" ARE trying to help. They are trying to help the MILLIONS of dogs that die every year because there aren't enough homes for all of the puppies that idiots are breeding.
So, if you don't want to read snotty answers, or be jumped on, read! Educate yourself and ascertain beforehand what is a good question and what is an incredibly stupid, uninformed and ignorant question.

I agree with you to an extent. I think frustration is a good word for people who know dogs and are here to enjoy an open forum. For example, it's extremely frustrating to see someone ask what they should do if their dog ate medication, rat poison, etc., when they should be on the phone or on their way to their vet. Even worse is when people give advice on medicating animals with human medications. You sit there saying to yourself, "Dear God, please let that person have enough sense not to listen to that answer."
There are a lot of trolls. I made the mistake of posting a question about anyone having had any experience with chemotherapy for their dog. At the time, I was losing my six year old German shepherd to bladder cancer and was devastated. I got three replies that were decent, but there was one that was really cruel. When I got an answer that said, "Put a nail in his head." I withdrew the question.
It would be very helpful to all of us if askers would simply research their question to see how many times the question has already been asked in YA. If they truly need help after that, then ask the question. By the way, if one more person asks "What do you get if you breed a Bulldog with a Shih Tzu?" (which is always spelled wrong anyway), they should be banished to a deserted island. LOL! :)
One question that makes me truly angry is the dreaded, "It's Sunday, Christmas, etc., and the vet is closed. My dog ate a bottle of Advil, drank Drano, etc. What should I do?" There are a million different excuses, but not one of them is good enough to answer why each and every person on here does not have the phone number to a veterinarian in case of an emergency when the office is closed. It has nothing to do with not having money to go to a vet. It's having the ability to contact a doctor if you have a question that's life-threatening. Nine times out of ten, people come on here and everyone is screaming at them to call a vet anyway.
When I go on vacation with my dogs, I have a vet lined up in case I need them. I even have a copy from Mapquest with the directions to the hospital from where I'm staying so that I can get there if I need to. I know their hours, what their policy is for emergency calls, etc. When an emergency comes up, it's too late to be looking through a phone book trying to find someone to help you save your pet's life. Years of experience have taught me that it is my duty as a pet owner to make sure I have a vet to treat them if needed. Do I sound extreme? I hope so.
There's a definite parallel here. Being prepared. None of us knows everything. I sure don't. And I don't think I'm better than anyone else. There are some people on this forum who really know what they're talking about, and I always enjoy their answers. I've learned a lot from them. I think some of those people (not all) who act like they're "better" might be very knowledgeable people who are truly concerned with dog owners who don't prepare before taking on the responsiblity of a dog. They might be worried about dogs at the hands of people who should be asking their vet or doing research before breeding or medicating a helpless animal. Maybe not a good reason to answer in a rude or ignorant way, but certainly a good reason to be frustrated.
Just my opinion. Good question.

Well I haven't received those responses. But I hate them. I have seen them on here so much. People can be so ignorant. One person asked a simple question about a dogs heat cycle, something like "how do I know when my dog is in heat?", and some idiot said "You don't, you have them spayed!!" What jerks! They couldn't just say nothing at all. We should report them for abuse when they act this way!
Oh and P.S. They are probably asking because they are trying to learn, but what fools if they thought they could do that here.

well, see, there are many different ways of being better than someone. your way is meant by being of higher maybe on the come-back type of scale. i read your question carefully and yahoo answers is a great and wonderful way to seek help. yes, there aren't always useful or correct answers but it leads to more info to help get the right answer. this is a genius way for people to help each other. it puts people in peace and doubting that is pointless. people feel good when thet help someone and then they are nice to more people who are nice when other people are nice. the world is a fragile place but believe it or not the yahoo answer system is a great way to learn, discover, ask, help, answer, be kind, spread joy, and a way to be yourself.

Perhaps the people who "think they are better" actually are. At least under the topic of dogs in the Yahoo Answers forum, I suspect the answers you consider "mean" are simply borne of frustration from reading some of the incredibly stupid questions and answers posted here.
REally, "what should I name my dog" "if I breed my unpapered dog to an unpapered dog of another breed, is it still a mutt?"
"my dog is pooping blood everywhere, should I call a vet? "
Frustration over trying to educate the great unwashed explains most of the nasty answers.

Cause you know what.. If people were doing the right thing and learning BEFORE they needed to cut the cord, learning BEFORE they needed to know how to tell if their dog was pregnant, or learning before they needed to know how to tell if the puppies are coming... They wouldn't be on Yahoo asking questions. They would be prepared and they would know these type things. It isn't rocket science, it is basic knowledge that one can pick up anywhere.
Don't want til the final moment to learn, learn before they breed the litter..
So yeah the person that said ' they are a puppymill '
they were right. Cause a puppymill is someone who has not got the best interest of the dogs at heart, someone who does things only for money, and not the love of the breed, the betterment of the breed, and dogs in general. Puppymill people regularly lose puppies cause they are too stupid to be ready and prepared and are too stupid to do things the right way.
So if the shoe fits... Well you know what to do with it...
A breeder is much like a boyscout.. They are always prepared...
A puppymill is not prepared and is doing nothing but filling the shelters with more unwanted dogs. By standing up for them, you are helping them to accomplish this.
