I know the feeling of hopelessness you're talking about. I started having panic attacks at 16 years old and they followed me (on & off) thru my life. I had an adversion to medication- I wanted to know what was happening to me and how to fix it- I wasn't interested in covering it with meds. Anyway...here' is what I can tell you...1) Know that you are not alone- there are many other people who also suffer from panic disorder 2) The symtoms are not life threatning (although it certainly feels that way, huh?) 3) panic attacks are false "fight or flight" responses- your brain is sending your body the message that you are in danger...what you feel is the adrenlin kicking in- work on finding a way to keep yourself calm (this takes real effort & concentration) . Walk yourself through it... keep telling yourself it will pass- eventually, it will get easier to deal with.
My thing was to get myself to what I considered my "safe" place (my home) I came to realize that I was just avoiding dealing with it. I got to the point that I was sick of living like that- it was affecting my entire life (negatively) I decided one day to fight back. Do you know, I haven't had an attack for about 8 years? This is the longest I have gone since the started 30 years ago.

Don't give up and above all, don't allow it to control you or ruin your quality of life. Good luck!

Your panic is felt as an emotion and as a heart beat that is way too fast. Your breathing accelerates. God can help you to learn about your body. The heart speed and breathing is controlled automatically by your auto brain or the lower brain. It can do weird things when chemicals in your brain fluid become unbalanced. When you have to relearn a wrong belief or an expectation has been proven wrong your upper brain changes the old belief and a waste product is released into the spinal fluid after the rethinking . This unbalanced chemical can affect your lower brain when it is not cleaned out by your blood. Exercising and emotional activity can stimulate circulation . Your panics will disappear when you avoid triggers for those feelings of depression or fear in your life and you keep active. Don't rely on pills to dull the brain for everything.

Stay away from stimulants, and eat healthy and drink lots of water, that will put your body in a good state, next is your mind and thats the hardest, im still trying to get over them myself. just think positive thoughts and if the thoughts and feelings come relax your body and mentally picture the worry leaving your body and then distraction. call someone, read a book, watch a movie, have a gf over. For really bad attacks you can get xanax perscribed it works great and on a daily basis you can take an ssri which is antidepressants like zoloft, paxil, or prozac, they all work well for panic disorder, those will help regulate the chemicals that are off that are triggering the attacks. i take zoloft and love it. paxil works great too but made me gain a ton of weight, good luck.

I used to have panic attack...I know it's really scary, the thing that I do to help is to exercies everyday... Exercise release endorphines, then it will make you happy.....I was told by my doctors to take paxil...But I haven't even took them....I pray and eat right. Try lots of greens, exercise, yoga, and stay away from negative people. Panic attacks are sometimes come from stress....Do you have any stress in life. Try not to.. U only live once in your life. Why waist the chance with medicine, because of stress....Learn to say i don't give a f**ck.. Eventually things won't become so dramatic as you think it is...Remember you yourself let you become this way...If you can control it, then obviously this panic attacks wont ruin your life...And please look into God...Because I felt that it help alot.....and take care.

If you would like an alternative to western medicine, go to a good health shop and get the Bach Flower Remedy called 'Rescue Remedy'. You will only need 2 or 3 drops under your tongue whenever you feel an attack coming on.

Combine the remedy with deep slow breathing and you should find great relief...good luck.

There are several medications for this. I suffer from them too and have tried a whole cocktail of different meds. talk to your doctor about it and you can begin finding what is best for you.

Not all of these drugs are addictive, in fact, I don't know of any, so don't believe what others are saying.
