I've known him for a long time and he's a really nice guy, just not my type as far as boyfriend material. I have never done this before, I am a one man woman usually in a committed relationship. How will I know he isn't sleeping with anyone else besides me? Should I worry about it or just go for it?

Personally I think casual sex is just a myth. I'm not some kind of super-moralist trying to tell you what's right or wrong, but even with possible STD consequences aside I wouldn't do it.

Just my opinion, but I think there may be many other unintended consequences. Will you think less of yourself? Do you run the risk of hurting him (very real possibility if he's wanted to be your boyfriend for a while and you don't consider him boyfriend material). In many cases what starts out as supposed no-strings-attached sex can turn into a hurtful situation when one person or the other starts to make more of it than it is.

And even if there really are no emotions involved, how good is sex without genuine emotion behind it? What's the difference between that and masturbation?

I prefer no intimacy to false intimacy, so that biases my opinion, but I think casual sex cheapens and lessens what sex really can be. For me it's something worth waiting for.

Good luck.

I say if you're both consenting adults and want to fool around, go for it. But PLEASE use protection! I know way too many friends who have caught stds from other people (one night stands, booty calls, and serious relationships). Be smart about it, and enjoy :)

Don't do it. You can never truly know if he is sleeping around on you.
