Possible. You also have to worry about other outdoor cats that might boss yours around. Busy streets they might wander off onto. Getting lost, getting picked up by someone who thinks they're stray. Wild animals, such as coyotes & raccoons that might cause problems.

Well, when I used to live in an apartment(with a balcony on the second story) my cat never jump off 1)because there was a fence and 2)she was afraid. So, unless your cats are real daredevils... I suggest that you maybe get some sort of a fence

It could happen, they could even fall by accident. My last apartment was on the second floor. I used to let my cat out on the balcony if I was there to watch her. I only turned my back for a few seconds when the phone rang and my kitty jumped onto the gutter and made her way to the neighbor's balcony. Fortunately, she didn't fall, but I had to go knock on my neighbor's door and ask them if I could get my cat from their balcony.

Yes, I have two cats and live on the second floor. One was an outdoor cat and the other was not. There have been times I have found both of them outdoors. Whether they jumped off or fell off when they were sleeping on the railing I do not know. I do not let them on the patio any more unless I am out there with them.

YES - it has happened many times to many cat guardians who thought their cats couldn't possibly be "that stupid." I had a cat that did that (several years ago) and fortunately, he landed on a thick bush just below the balcony.

If you intend to let your kitties enjoy the outdoor balcony (and I think they should), you have to take steps in making that balcony secure so that your cats cannot jump off from it.

Do you want to take a chance on that?

Do internet research on how to enclose your balcony with a special net that will keep the kitty from jumping.

Yes, it can happen. While some cats will use judgement, I know of cases where cats think they can make the leap and end up hurt.

Secure that area. Cats don't take well to a move. Give them at least two months to adjust before allowing access to that balconey. They might jump because they are looking for their " old home ".

I would not leave the window open without a secure screen in place. I have seen it happen before. The cats will be in a new place and may instinctively try to find their old place. Don't leave anything to chance!

I wouldn't worry cats are pretty smart about stuff like that, but you need to find a way to let them out.
