I love God, I love what Jesus taught. I don't put Jesus above God, and that is exactly what it feels like christians do. Most of you don't understand why people get so upset with you. Your hearts, most of you, are in the right place. You think those that don't take Jesus as their savior are going to suffer in hell forever, so you try to help make people believe. Realize how very hard it is for some people to believe in something there is no proof for. Realize how upsetting it is that you talk about love yet look forward to Jesus coming back so you can go to heaven, while so many others will be suffering in hell forever. These are some of the reasons people get upset with some of you. And please don't say that the bible is proof, because it's not.

Dusty, a book does not prove the existence of God. I love the teachings in the book ok? Love, peace, understanding, not judging others

Hansel, Jesus IS God? Then why do we have to say we take Jesus as our savior and say things like In Jesus' name.

If the Bible is not proof, where do you get your information about Jesus?
Response to the additional details: Rosalind, you love the teaching about love, peace and all the rest, but then you dismiss Jesus' teachings of hell and judgment? You're doing the same thing we Christians get accused of...picking and choosing Bible verses.

I wouldn't be quite so categorical with non-christians, although they may be badly deceived about ultimate things.
But when I believed I was born again into a new real relationship with God as promised in the Word. The difference between the unforgiven state before and that after is very great. I also received the gift of the Holy Spirit, only given to christians when they believe on Jesus as their saviour and Lord (i.e. Son of God and God), but sometimes christians need more seeking for anointing with the Holy Spirit.
So as a christian I know I have been made fit for heaven by Christ's grace. I would go to hell if I hadn't frankly. So its logical to conclude people in other religions and agnostics are certainly skating on thin ice.

Christian don't put Jesus above God that would be impossible because Jesus is God.. I don't understand how you can say you love Jesus but get upset at Christian that say that no one outside Jesus can receive eternal life... Don't you remember this scripture.
Matthew 23:33
Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?
Jesus said that. So I guess you can't love Him because He made judgments about people.. Why did He say these things about them.. Because they taught the wrong things. Not because of some evil works they were doing.. So when Jesus says that No man come to the Father but by Him and Christian say that only those who except Christ will be saved you call us bigoted and hateful. You sound a bit like a hypocrite.. Jim

You say that you love God and you love what Jesus taught? On what do you base your love then, if not on something that you haven't seen and can't prove? This is particularly ironic in light of the fact that you reject the Bible as "proof" when it is the single greatest source of information about God and Jesus' teachings.
The problem is that you're a "cafeteria believer" who only takes the parts of Christianity that you like and agree with, but you ignore the rest. The Bible which you don't accept is very clear on the fact that those who reject Christ's atoning death on the Cross will not enter Heaven. They have not been cleansed of their sins, and God is so holy that He cannot look upon sin.
I didn't make those rules. . .He did.
If I knew that a bridge was out ahead, I would warn people not to go down that road. That's my responsibility to them. And for that same reason, I will continue to warn those around me that they are headed down an equally dangerous spiritual road.
So even if it offends non-believers to be told that they are in danger of going to Hell, I'm not going to stop preaching the Gospel. Jesus' message made sure that He wasn't going to win any popularity contests among those who hated and rejected Him, and His followers are no better than their Master.

Jesus is God. I put him at the same level, not above or below. I am a little confused. Do you want us to shut up and not tell people that Jesus is The Life, The Truth and The Way? I am all for not being a jerk and insensitive, but I am not going to water down the truth so as to not upset someone. I know there are people who disagree with us, that is life, but I would rather find favor with God than with man.(Just so you know, I don't believe people will burn for eternity, so I am not someone who tells people they are going to burn in hell forever and ever while I'm laughing it up in heaven.) But I do want to spread the good news that Jesus is alive and coming back soon. No amount of dismayed non-believers is going to persuade me otherwise.

I appreciate your honesty, but what do you base your belief system on?
If you can't place any validity in the basis for your beliefs, why believe it?
As a Christian, the foundation for my beliefs is the Bible.
Because I carry the name of Christ (hence the term - Christian) I have to believe that Jesus is God.
If I felt that Buddha was God I would not call myself a Christian.
I do not carry the name Christian lightly as many people do.
To be a Christian is to base your life on the life and teachings of Christ, just as any other religion should do the same with their god.
Otherwise, I would be a hypocrate and so is anyone who professes to be one thing, but acts like another.
If Jesus said to love your neighbor as yourself - there's no question about that - just do it. Either you will or you won't.
If Jesus said to love God with all your heart, mind and soul - do it. Either you will or you won't.
If Jesus said things about hell either you believe them or you won't. It's not nice and in fact it's very sad - but, coming from where I come from in my belief system - it's a choice.
It sounds like you are searching. I would advice you to talk to someone you can trust and confide in, but someone who knows a bit more about the nature of spiritual things than you, because it also sounds like you are also a little confused about what it means to be a Christian.
Good luck and God Bless.

The Bible was dictated by God to others. Yes God did not physicallly write the book, but it is his words. i hate to say it but the Bible is not the only proof. A lot about Jesus and Moses and other Bible teachings were in my history book last year. So the Bible is not the only proof, but the Bible is the biggest proof we have. It is the book that has been around the longest.

loving Jesus and looking forward to His return should inspire on to help the suffering
I do not believe a person can really be a real Christian and not 'love God' or at last be moving in that direction. The new Testament says blessed are those who love Jesus with an undying love
in 3 John, those who continue in sin 'have not seen God' they have not caught the vision of the real God and been changed by it

Jesus is God and God is Jesus. the Holy Trinity is three persons in one god, God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. when you see people talking bout Jesus and saying things in the name of Jesus Christ they are talking about God but in the person of Jesus Christ. You may not understand it, but that's what faith is believing something you dont fully understand.
