Would you? Or would you treat your own religion as fact?

(Neglecting other teachings and only having your child learn of yours is hypocritical and brainwashing)

TKD540- Because your belief is just that a belief. You are arguing opinion over what is knowledge

Of course I'm going to teach him about the faiths of the world. I don't want him growing up ignorant of what people believe. Of course I'll also explain to him why atheism makes sense to me, but I won't force it on him.

If he becomes a Christian, he becomes a Christian. Pagan, Buddhist, Muslim, Wiccan, etc, it's his choice. If he wants to know, I'll tell him what I think of religious faith BUT I'll also tell him that I respect his religious freedom just as I respect EVERYONE'S right to self-determination.

The context of your question, assumes that all of them are the same, and that it doesn't matter, or isn't important which one your child chooses.
Religious people DO CARE about these things (obviously).

For example, lets say you firmly believe your child should brush his teeth after every meal. You believe this is important.

You're going to tell your kids that's what they should do.
You're not going to say; "however, lots of people all over the world don't brush their teeth at all, and some of them simply rub tea leaves on their teeth", in the interest of "diversity" or whatever.
Because you don't want them to make the wrong choice about something you believe to be important, because you see dire consequences for those other behaviors.

That's exactly why religious people don't teach their kids other religions, get it?

It is one thing to teach your child that there are other beliefs out there, he has to know that, doesn't he? Surprisingly, by openly allowing the kid to investigate other faiths for himself, while quietly practicing my own, turned out to be the very best way to raise Christian children, while we have seen that trying to forcefeed a child the parent's religion is the very best way to ensure that he will grow up to be an atheist.
It is quite something else again to tell him that all these beliefs are true. Why would anyone tell their kid something they don't believe is true themselves?
Obviously, you are gonna teach your child what you believe is true, and hopefully, why you believe that way.
In a sense, I have to agree with Father K. If I believe that Jesus is the One True God, and I do, it would be very irresponsible of me to teach him that Muhammed is a true prophet, or that Buddha is the light. To a Christian, that would be tantamount to poisoning the child, since the Christian believes that these things can only lead to the child's eventual destruction. If I want my child to have Eternal Life, and I do, and if I believe that only Jesus can give him Eternal Life, and I do, why would I tell him to believe in any other religion?
Now, I want him to be informed about other faiths, and I want him to be free to make his own choice, but obviously, in my heart of hearts, if I believe that Jesus is the Only God, then I am going to be praying that my child will also believe in Him.
After all, I love my kids.

Come on, does Popeye tell his nephews to eat pizza?? No, because Popeye knows that pizza will make them fat and weak, and when the bully Bluto comes along they'll be helpless, so he feeds them spinach.
I hope that makes it simple enough for you to understand.

You teach your children everything around you. But when you have a child, you want them to be safe and happy, if you believe that your child will be happy in a Christian life because your life is Christian and you're happy, you just might be moved to teach your kids about living a Christian life, but, at the same time, teach them other religions along with other cultures.

I teach my own faith as fact, because that is what I believe it to be. I'd be a reverse hypocrite therefore if I didn't. BUT- I also try to teach my kids about other beliefs, because it's a big world, and they will have to live with and get along with a wide variety of people.

Honestly, I intend on teaching our children about ALL religions, not just Christianity. It's going to be impossible to go through this life without running into people who believe all sorts of things, so why think I have the right way?

I think the best thing that my mother did was encourage me when I went away to college to visit other faiths and explore what other religions had to offer.

If my sons ask me questions regarding other religions, then I'll answer their questions as best as I can. If I don't have an answer, I'll find the answer.

Children need to be talked to with respect. Their questions should be encouraged, and answered honestly.

Why? Why would someone want to teach their child about something that they consider "wrong"? That makes no sense. It's certainly not "hypocritical" in ANY sense of the definition of that word. It doesn't fit brainwashing either. Feel free to look up the term. You are misusing it. My children have learned plenty about every religion EXCEPT Christianity in their classrooms. Go figure.

Every religion teaches that it is the only true religion and all other religions are false. That's the only way these religions can keep the people and bleed them of money. Let's face it, religion today, any faith, has nothing to do with God. It's all money. All religions are hypocritical and demand brainwashing.
