south park is genius definately! the mormon episode was funny where it was showing the history of it and the hum in the background was "dumb dumb dumb dumb".. haha.. so funny.. they do plenty of great religious episodes. also the episdoe "the passion of the jew" where kyle feels bad about the jews persuctution of Jesus and thinks they should apologize for it.. that was a great one!

South Park is great not only for providing religious explanations, which they do, for the most part, very well, South Park is a perfect political satire. Every new episode has some sort of social commentary, and it ends with either Stan or Kyle (two of the main characters) saying: "You know what, I learned something today". And you do learn something. The only problem is that many people cannot see past the vulgarity. Kudos to Trey and Matt for making such a great, long lasting show that gives us some great insight.

from a mormon perspective the all about mormon thing was not true at all
mormon history is totally inacurate.
but i love south park its the freaken bomb when you want to make fun of something but i have the maturity and knowledge to know south park is a cartoon that has no morals and standards in todays society.
i admit i watch jackass and punked and american idol. i am a person who loves humor and wit.i know some things today are very worldly and tv has many things i would not let my own child watch because its not healthy for him to watch.i make sure when i do watch with him it is appropiate and not degrading others. and so close with this i watched south park with my son and yes he does sing the dum dum dum thing once in a while but im glad hes doesnt know what it means yet. i figure hes a little kid now so its ok for now but as he gets older im not going to let him watch everything just because.
i limit tv use and let him play more but if he does watch watch tv its mostly videos and religous movies that i know is already safe for watching. im hoping you guys do the same.

Southpark is definitely intellectual and clever and quite often very moral. Indeed most episodes could end with "The moral of this story is..." Religious topics are dealt to with childlike simplicity and the boys learn the truth the same way most kids do, by asking a variety of adults and receiving conflicting and sometimes disturbing adult replies. My son and I have watched it since he was eight years old and I would recommend other parents to do the same. For too long Southpark has received bad publicity, but then maybe that's what keeps it on air?

I think South Park, though they fudge through a few details and sometimes go completely wonky, are surprisingly accurate and insightful when it comes to religion.
The whole Joseph Smith, Mormon episode was funny as all get out. I like the "dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb" they kept singing throughout the story.
The Scientology episode, though they were inaccurate when it came to the use of the e-meter, was surprisingly informative, at least when the words "THIS IS WHAT SCIENTOLOGISTS ACTUALLY BELIEVE" were superimposed on the screen.

I have never seen the show but I hear it rubs certain people the wrong way. I did a quick google search on it and some of its premises are a little extreme...especially the religious themes (i.e. Scientology w/ Tom Cruise). Like I said, I haven't seen it, but if they can use humor to get people to think critically about this stuff...all the power to them....peace.

South Park's ulterior message is a humanistic one... which is ultimately the only thing that ever affects our planet anyway. What happens to humanity is up to humans, not an invisble sky pixie, and that is what South Park is saying.

I love south park. Almost every episode they do is a parody of something happening in the world today and their take on it. And it always has a really good lesson in there if you actually take the time to look for it.

I actually agree with you...while alot of the things they do are completely outragous (funny tho!) they give a pretty good picture of how most people view alot of religions, and they play up the sterotypes.

Their Mormon show was brilliant, and historically, very accurate. The Scientology show was funnier.
I like Matt and Trey.
