It depends on the labor agreement they are working under and that varies from airline to airline. In general, at our airline, crew meals are provided if crew members are on duty for a certain period of time with no opportunity to eat elsewhere and over a time when you would normally eat a meal. Dinner, breakfast whatever. The flight attendant meals at our airline are the same quality as the pilots meals, roughly equivalent to first class meals. The FAA requires that the Captain and the First Officer cannot eat the same kind of meal. They must be different.

Pilots and flight attendants eat the same 'crew meals.' They are neither first class or economy, but specific meals made for the crews. Flight attendants also are free to eat any left over passenger meals. Rarely does a pilot have access to these left overs. Virtually never.
Also, the old story about the pilots eating different meals is just an old wives tale. Believe me, we eat identical meals on almost every flight.
Gee whiz - pilots and flight attendants also stay in the same quality hotels, have the same quality uniforms et. There is no disparity.

Crew meals? What are those?
Seriously, I wish my company had crew meals included in our contract.
Basically it depends on the pilots and flight attendants contracts. Few U.S. airlines serve meals on domestic flights any more, but crews often nab the leftovers. Usually since flight attendants are the ones who prepare and serve the meals they often tell the pilots that there aren't any first class meals left so they can have them for themselves (yes this really happens).
Most crews usually bring their own food from home, or buy food at the airport between legs.

Flight attendants can eat whatever is left over after the passengers have finished. Usually there is more than sufficient left over because they cater for this. Pilots can eat whatever they want. The attendants will save the meal for them and they can eat whenever they feel hungry.

I was on a cross country Jet Blue flight once and I was distraught when I found out they didn't serve meals, only snacks. A kind flight attendant informed me that I could have her dinner as she wasn't hungry. I guess this means they can bring their own food aboard flights, but they shouldn't eat any of it in front of the passengers if they want to be polite.

I'll bet they get into the first class goodies and I would especially want my pilots to eat first class.
