I was driving my wheelchair equiped van and was not speeding. I have a handicap logo on my license plate and have dark 2% window tint on all my windows which I have a medical waiver from the DMV for. I was heading to the store and this cop pulls out and turns on his lights. I was not speeding. I continued on because I had to go shoppoing and did not have time for what the officer had to say. I immediately called 911 and told them I was on my way to the store and I have this cop behind me that won't go away and I would like him to because he is interupting the flow of my day. The operator put me on hold and contacted the officer. The operator came back and told me to pull over now. I continued till I got into the supermarket parking lot. I told the operator to tell him i'm disabled and not armed and that I do not have time for a stop and chat. I then hung up. I parked in a handicapped spot and preceded to open my side door for my lift. The cop came over yelling at me.

I told him to leave me alone. At that point, I proceeded to the store in my wheelchair. He followed me then 4 other cops show up and surround me in the store. They escorted me to my vehicle and after 45 minutes, I got 3 tickets. One for failure to stop for an offier, the second for window tint, and the third for talking on the cell. Now I asked why he wanted to pull me over and he told me it was because of my tint. I showed him the medical form from the dmv and he took it and never gave it back. I told him he doesn't need to be wasting my time over window tint.

So long story short, I have to go to court. I'm pretty bent out of shape. With all those pople out there who are terrible drivers and break laws, they bother me. I feel sometimes, an officer should understand that i'm not in the mood for a stop and chat and that he should go catch him a bad guy.

RESPONSE TO ANSWERS:

I do have respect for the law and I do not think that vecause I am handicap, I can do what I want. If I knew I was speeding or doing something wronmg, I would have pulled over and appoligized. But I do not havr for some rogue cop who wants to waste my time with window tint.

The 911 operator was floored I didn't feel like stopping. I actually stopped at two traffic lights and the officer stayed behind me with his lights on. I told the operator that I wasn't trying to be above the law, I just wasn't in the mood nor have the inclination to have a stop and chat with one of our city's finest. I give to the FOP and PBA. Unless I am very blantantly breaking a law, leave me alone.

My time is valuable and precious and I am not in the mood nor do I have the time for blame games or who what where and why with the police. Thats my opinion.

Go catch yourself a bad guy. This good guy is going to the store to pick up bread and milk.

I had to stop laughing before I could answer this one.

When the lights come on behind you in the future you should flow your day over to the right and stop. You're lucky you didn't get arrested, so count your blessings and get with the program next time.

"I told the operator to tell him i'm disabled and not armed and that I do not have time for a stop and chat."

I'd bet you made the time didn't you?
LMAO

P.S.
Be sure and take your attitude to traffic court.
It'll really impress the Judge.

No,
Really.

This probably could have all been avoided if you had just stopped and found out what the officer wanted in the first place. If a police officer puts on his blues, that usually means he is not wanting to ask for a recipe. As for calling 911 and telling the operator to tell the officer to leave you alone, I would have added improper use of emergency response services to your list of citations. That carries an immediate arrest. Police are annoying, but they have a job to do. Had you just pulled over and explained everything to him, you probably would have gotten away and even received an apology. The fact that you went to great lengths to avoid him, made the situation escalate. Like the other person said, get over yourself.

As for fighting the citations in court. you can probably get another copy of the waiver from the DMV. Take it to court or at least bring some kind of medical excuse from a doctor who said you needed the tint in the first place. That should take care of that. As for the other two regarding the cell phone, and failure to yield for an officer, that was your own stupidity. The judge is likely to keep the fine the same and even chastise you for your ignorance of authority.

The officers can inform you to roll up the domicile windows. no ought to realize this except you're being an a$$ or the vehicle is being towed. Window tint is diverse based on the jurisdiction. An officer has each and every appropriate to end you for loud exhaust. manufacturers do not care in the slightest degree in the event that they make issues that are unlawful. They know finished nicely that some fool will nevertheless purchase it. in basic terms like each and every keep that does window tints is familiar with that the guy is going to get pulled over for it. All they care approximately is creating wealth. once you won your driving force's license you have been stated which you had to be a legal driving force, which is composed of kit on the vehicle you're using. strengthen up andpersistent legally. EDIT: To the two adult adult males who stated the police desire a warrant to seek the vehicle...i in my view laughed out loud at your solutions...any police officer, on ANY site visitors end, can seek a vehicle in the event that they have an articluated reason to realize this, no warrant required. the rationalization that the overpowering majority are actually not searched is because of the fact the guy did not provide the officers a reason to experience the ought to realize this.

Had you stopped in the first place and showed him the waiver, he would have let you go. I have no idea how far the supermarket was but it was far enough for you to call 911 and speak to an operator and then be put on hold and then told to pull over which again you ignored. Your right, there are a lot of bad drivers out there and if you want to see one just look in the mirror.

Just because you are handicapped doesn't give you a free pass on the tickets. You already get all the good parking places and the first in line at all the rides at theme parks, now you think that you don't have to pull over for the police? WOW I am going to try to get one of the darn blue handicapped stickers and drive however I want to.

If an officer is attempting to pull you over you have to comply whether you have the time to chat or not it's a little thing called THE LAW. The officer had no way of knowing just by looking at your vehicle if you had a medical waiver for the window tint or not. You know that you may be going to jail right?

Did you come here for pity? I am a Disabled Veteran. And, I am a cop. While I am not wheel chair bound I am considered 40 percent Disabled by the government due to a rod in my leg and cadaver ligaments in my knee. I have arrested disabled people before for drugs, theft, and even domestic battery. Do you think that someone that is disabled can not commit a crime. You then my fine person are creating the stereotype. I believe that all people are capable of good and productivity. Therefor all people are capable of crime. I once pulled over a person in a wheelchair. He ran a red light because he said his hand slipped of his hand break. Come to find out he had two warrants. They were non extraditable. However, he had 17 prior arrests for drugs and one one for armed robbery. A consent search of his vehicle pulled about half a dozen individual baggies of crack . When i asked him why he was in a wheelchair he told me he was shot in a drug deal. This officer showed great skill by not pulling you out of the chair and cuffing you up on scene. You should have been taken to the jail. Your vehicle should have been taken from you. You are not above the law. However, this is a good story and will share it at work.

let me get this straight the officer is interrupting your day? wow i can not believe you actually said that. When signed your drivers license you were saying that you would fallow all the states rules and regulations. the officer more then likely wanted to talk to you about the tint but would have let you go when he found out you have a waver had you just pulled over. any time you see red light on a cop car fire truck you have to pull to the right even if it interrupts you day. the world dose not revolve around you. you messed up you deserve what you get for it next time fallow the law

The officer is not pulling you over to "stop and chat." He is attempting to legally detain you for a violation of the vehicle code. Your refusal to pull over is why you got into trouble. I don't think that any judge is going to condone someone's refusal to stop for the police.

Had you stopped and presented your DMV waiver, the officer would have been required to immediately release you (no reason to legally detain you any longer). You ended up wasting more of your time by not stopping than you would have if you were to have just stopped and took care of the misunderstanding to begin with.

You also wasted 45 minutes worth of four officers' time... and the time of the 9-1-1 dispatcher you spoke with - time which they all could have used to do more important things. I'm sure that if that officer could have found MORE things to cite you for, he would have. Now you are going to have to waste more of your time (and more of the officers' time and judge's time) and go to court.

I, personnally have no sympathy for your sob story. I really wish you would realize that the world did not revolve around you. I hope that they suspend your license for failing to stop, and that your insurance goes up when you get your license back. You are a drain on the system and a waste of my tax dollars.

Sorry but in my dept you would have been handcuffed and sent to jail.

You always stop, too busy, you need to be in jail. honsetly, if they turn on thier lights you stop. You realise you will not be a target for everyone of those cops each and every time they see you from now on ???

You broke the law, and then acted really stupid, I hope you have a better story to tell the judge or you will most likely lose your drivers license over this. The failure to stop is a very serious ticket.

You seem to think the world revolves around you. For what ever the reason the officer was stopping you for , you must pull over and stop. When you received you license, you agreed to obey the laws and rules of the road.. I expect they will likely dismiss the window tint, but the other two, I would expect you will once again talk yourself right back into.. Next time stop and play by the rules..
