If you want to make it fancy like the old text books you can use the word art as well. Align it to the left margin. Click on the letter and another tool bar will come up. Look for the button with the lines and a dog on it (text wrap) Use that to wrap the text around the letter. Above response is also another way to do this.

Click the paragraph that you want to begin with a "drop cap," a large dropped initial capital letter.
The paragraph must contain text.

On the Format menu, click Drop Cap.
Click Dropped or In margin.
Select any other options you want.

you will need to find the font type you want to use, that looks like old script fonts on the page I just looked at,

there are lots of fonts tha comes in windows, there are also fonts you can buy on a cd, or you can download free fonts of the internet

do a web search for
fonts+free+windows
that is telling your search engine to look for free fonts for windows
