Ibuprofen is an NSAID (non-steroidal anti inflammatory drug). NSAIDs are notorious for causing all sorts of issues, especially GI problems. I was on a prescription NSAID and at a very high dose and ended up needing a colonoscopy and endoscopy because they thought I had ulcers and bleeding in my colon. Luckily it was nothing that bad but I still suffer over 18 months later from acid reflux, gastritis and a hiatal hernia, all related to this medication. So, are there serious side effects? Yes there certainly are and I strongly recommend NOT taking to much every day. If you are in that much pain you should really go to a pain management center where they can work out a treatment plan for yo that won't be so harmful. Best wishes.

Yes this is dangerous. i am a nurse. If you take ibuprofen like this you could possibly develop an ucler in your stomach..actually your chances are very high. Ibuprofen at those doses will irritate the lining of your stomach and cause major problems, that left untreated could lead to stomach bleeds. How come you are taking so much? Maybe you should be put on a different kind of medication...whether its for pain or the antiinflamatoy effects. You can alternate b/w ibuprofen and tylenol and that will lower your chances, but for months or years is to long for that as well. I wouldn't recommend it.......

Large doses of anything over time are inherently a bad idea. Medications tend to build up in the body tissues after a while. I know that Acetaminophen does damage to the liver, and I'd suspect that such high doses of Ibuprofen would have some similar consequence over time.
If you're in some sort of on-going pain, I hate to say it, but you should see a doctor. If it's a matter of money and insurance, then perhaps you could seek out some alternative such as acupunture or acupressure. It's not worth diminshing your quality of life to suffer with pain. Especially when you're doing some untold damage to your system over time.
But don't take my word for it...look at these links. The second one relates the possibility of intestinal damage from long-term use.

HORRIBLE idea. My mother was doing that for about 6 months before she ended up in the hospital because her kidneys shut down, she developed bleeding ulcers in her stomach, her liver was on the brink of shutting down, and she developed an allergy to the medication. Why would you want to do that? Its an absolutely horrible idea. If you're in that much pain, you need to get a perscription pain killer. That much ibuprofen can, and will, kill you.

In my opinion, I think it very unlikely you would be around to ask that question if you in fact are really taking 3200 mg of ibuprofen a day for a month, because you would either have bled to death internally, or your bowels would have shut down completely from very severe constipation.
I think it's a hypothetical question, thus my answer.

why are you doing this? are you trying to hurt yourself? because that's what you're going to do. Ibuprofen is extremely hard on the stomach and can cause irritation and bleeding. it's also hard on your kidneys. please cut back on the dosage. the side effects will out weigh the benefits in this case.
Best Wishes
