60% of americans say that the bible should be taught in school as a subject of study and not as the received word of god. Does this sit well with you? Should this also be done with other religions and holy books?

Yes, that sits fine with me. I'd be annoyed if a school viewed it as "the word of God", considering it's not the word of everyone's God. And it should be done with every popular religious text. Religion is an important part of history, whether or not one may think it's true.

NO. Christians (yes I am one) want to make laws that give Christians certain rights without thinking it all the way through. If you allow the Bible to be taught in schools, then all other "religious" texts have to be taught. I would be livid if my child came home after being taught what I deemed a false religion in school and converted to that religion. I think all of that should be personal and on your own time. And that includes Evolution.

I realize that there are other religions, and i belieive that they should offer religion as an elective, because us teens should be able to study our beliefs freely.... also with all the homework that teachers give us nowadays is so big that i have very little time to read my Bible. I have 14 projects due next week, now if reading the Bible was homework then i believe my mom would alow me to stay up later to read it, because i work straight through the day. Reading the Bible is essental in any christians life. i hope that the principal actually alaows it before i graduate in 2009. we've sent in a petition this week

Why should it be different than the Quran? They are teaching classes about Islam in CA and part of their homework is to learn the prayers. But then that's suppose to be ok because it's a culture and not a religion. Right.

Classes about any and all religions are fine in schools as long as they include all of them. They can not be taught as fact but as "this is what some people believe".

60% of all Americans are also overweight and out of shape. Should a strong exercise program be instituted as well as the teachings of a book that is fiction.

What subject?
Givin that nothing in the Bible can really be proven, it has no hisorical or academic value. What would be the point? Its just the religious trying to get their foot in the door. Once that happens, the entire congregations will be there preaching.
This happens and I WILL homeschool.

I think it would be fine if they also covered the religious texts of other religions, AND if the class were an elective.

somehow, I don't think that is what these 60% have in mind.

I have no problem with that. An understanding of the Torah, and Bible and Qur'an along with other sacred texts would promote understanding between peoples.

Then they should include other religions. There's no point in teaching just ONE religion...that's what causes fights.
